LOPS Kindergarten making Peek -a -Boo

In Kindergarten, the students have been
very busy making books of their favorite
colors. They also made Peek -a -Boo books
in the library. Their counting club is really
growing and some of the students have
moved into the 200 club.
Grade 1
Grade 1 has been working on vowel
sounds this week, learning sounds of "a"
and "e". They are also trying to answer
questions in their work books.
The Grade 8's helped Grade 1 to make
dinosaur stories and pictures on Wednes-
day. That was fun' The class is also mak-
ing valentine creatures in art this week,
and in the library, Mrs. Maclntyre helped
the students to create beautiful tissue
paper hearts.'
Grade 2
The Grade 2's have been brushing up on
their mapping skills. They are enjoying
designing and making their own maps out
of plasticine and sand.
The monsters' hairs have started to
grow and it won't be long until they need a
hair cut.
Grade 3
The Grade 3 class has started to give
their speeches this week. Everyone has
worked very hard.and the results were ex-
cellent. The class has also learned about
litres, millilitres, grams, kilograms, cen-
timetres, metres, and kilometres.
Grade 4
The Grade 4 class invited their parents
to a special class presentation of their very
fine speeches on Friday, February 6. Well
deserved refreshments were served at the
conclusion of the afternoon.
Grade 5
The Grade 5 class is busy with their
speeches and science fair projects as well
as the regular day-to-day work. They have
also been getting their note books in good
shape and there's always homework that
has to be completed.
Grade 7
The Grade 7 class has been working hard
on their speeches. They gave their
speeches in front of the class and everyone
is happy that the speeches are finally over.
They are looking forward to their competi-
tion against the Grade 8 class.
Grade 8
The Grade 8 students are in the midst of
planning for their trip to Ottawa in June.
Guidelines for the eligible students have

been discussed and students are making
every effort to prove that they would make
excellent ambassadors for LCPS when
visiting Canada's capital city.
Drama Club
If you had walked into LCPS on. Wednes-
day morning at about 9 a.m., you might
have wondered why there were strange
jungle noises coming over the PA system.
Those were not real monkeys! It was the
talented members of the Drama Club.
'They were treating the staff and
students to some creative sound stories
about a trip to the tropical rain forests.
Their performance was enjoyed by all.
LCPS Sports
The girls' and boys' volleyball teams
represented the school well at a regional
volleyball tournament held recently.
The boys' team finished as runners-up
by using skill and a lot of energy. This
allowed the team to participate in the
county -wide tournament on Saturday,
February 7. Mr. Burkhart and Mr.
Flanagan were proud of the team con-
sisting of, Luke Cranston, Rob Crich,
Gavin Hunter, Dennis Johnston, Jamie
Johnston, Justin Murray, Scott Nicholson,
Steve Nicholson, Peter Neufeld, Dale
Priestap, Peter Reavie, Brad Rhody,
Kevin Springer, Chris Stevenson and
Russell Sutton.
The girls' team worked hard and par-
ticipated very well. Miss Matte was very
proud of the team which included Jill
Campbell, Kristen Owen, Betty -Anne Mur-
ray, Denise Hiller, Tracy Ward, Connie
Husk, Jodi Hackett, Erin Johnstone,
Megan Johnstone, Sara Nelson, Marita
MacDougall and Cindy Raczkevi. Special
thanks is offered to Jennifer MacKinnon,
the team's manager.
Mr. Pike's reminders
Mr. Pike would like to know the names of
all five-year-old who will be going to
Kindergarten this September.
The public speaking contest will be held
on Friday, February 13 at 9 a.m. Guests
are welcome. the public speaking finals
will be held on February 18 at 7 p.m.
Everyone is welcome. If there are anyone
willing to volunteer their time as judges,
please let Mr. Pike know by February 12.
Band news
To the band members at the Lucknow
Agricultural Society's meeting, Mr.
Cayley says thank -you to those gifted
musicians who played for society a the
United Church last Monday evening.
For the opening number, a group of ex-
quisite trumpet players, Erin Johnstone,
Peter Reavie, Justin Murray, and Marita
MacDougall played two numbers entitled
Waltz in Duet Style and Scotch Air.
The next number was played by four
talented flautists, Kristen Owen, Denise
Hiller, Cailin Clarke, and Megan
Johnstone called Let There Be Peace on
Earth. •
After this number, a superb orchestra of
clarinetists Tracy Ward, Betty -Anne Mur-
ray, April Brindley, Jodi Hackett and Can-

nish), a son, Matthew David, 6 lbs. 5 oz., at
Kincardine General Hospital on January
27, 1987. He's a wee brother, for Andrew
and Jennifer. A grandson for Mrs.' Jim
Burt of Lucknow and also a grandson for
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Cornish of RR 4 Ripley.

The evening closed with another song
played by the same four trumpeters. They
played a piece called 01' Black Joe.
The audience loved the music, but it
