Volunteer drivers from area needed
By Gloria Workman
We have managed to greet winter on a
light note this year, but we are paying for
it now. This is a particularly rough time of
the year for the elderly person to get out on
their own, safely. Ice and deep snow are
great deterrents to keep people inside. Our
volunteer drivers come to the front door to
pick up clients in time for the program, for
either of the program clays at the
Wingham and Area Day Centre for the
Homebound. If you or anyone you know is
interested in social and recreation pro-
grams, a hot nutritious meal and con-
tinued learning, please give us a call.
That was the good news. Unfortunately,
we are going to lose one of our staff
members. Marg Pollock, the Meal Super-
visor has decided to retire. Marg has been
with the centre from nearly the beginning
(71/2 years) preparing her famous noon
meal. Marg will be missed greatly. By the
time this article has been printed we may
have found the person to fill Marg's shoes.
Introductions will take place next month.
WANTED! We need a volunteer driver
from the Brussels area, and the Lucknow
area. Pass the word. If you or anyone you
know is interested please get in touch
with us at 357-1440. Volunteer drivers are
reimbursed for the cost of mileage.
The clients and staff of the centre have
successfully beaten those dreaded
January "Blahs". We thought "Hawaii"
all week and it worked. When everyone in ,
Wingham was bustling about celebrating
Frosty Fest Ave were doing the opposite.
Everyone received a Hawaiin Lei upon ar-
rival at the centre. A contest was held for
the person wearing the brightest clothes. It
was very difficult to choose a winner. You
definitely needed to wear yo sunglasses
for this event. Spirits wer gh.
Foot clinics will be hel February 11 and
26 from 1-3 p.m. at the ar ies building.

Please call to make an appointment. The
next Board meeting is February 16 at 3
p.m.
This month we are going to try our hands
at Ceramics. We have a possible resource
person from the Wingham area, but we
can use all the ideas and experience we
can get. We are hoping to have one major
craft project each month. If anyone has
any ideas or expertise they would like to
share with us, please call.
Margaret Day, the Head Librarian of the
Wingham Public Library, is going to ex-
plain the plans for the New Library by
showing us the Architect's Model on
February 5.. In another effort to raise
money for the centre, we are sponsoring a
Quilt made by clients and volunteers of the
day centre. The draw will take place on
Valentine's Day.
Ernie of the Wingham Museum will br-
ing in some interesting artifacts for discus-
sion on February 17 - 19. Mr. Eaton
brought in some items during the summed
of 86. It was such a success that the seniors
have asked for him to return. Mr. Eaton
gains something in return, he finds that he
learns a lot more about the area by talking
with the seniors.
Keeping warm inside during the winter
months leaves a lot of extra time that
could be used to develop new skills or to
keep up with ones that are already learn-
ed. Whether it be woodworking, quilting,
writing your family memoirs or knitting.
"Use the talents you Possess, If only the
best bird sang, the woods would be silent."
Teach your skills to younger members of
your family. Leave your mark.
County man
arrested for
poaching
On January 22, 1987 a Huron County resi-
dent was convicted in Provincial Offences
Court at Goderich of possession of illegally
hunted deer. He was fined $354 and the one
deer involved was turned over to the
Salvation: Army in Wingham.
A concerned citizen had reported hear-
ing shots fired in the Saratoga Swamp, a
known deer area in West Wawanosh
Township during the late evening hours on
December 18, 1986.
Investigation that night by a conserva-
tion officer produced evidence of an illegal
deer kill. A search warrant was later ob-
tained and executed by Wingham District
conservation officers.
One deer carcass was located hanging in
a barn. It was seized.
The suspected poacher claimed that two
other men had borrowed his truck that
evening and must have hung the deer in his
barn when they returned his truck.. He
would not provide the names of the men
whom he claimed had taken his truck.
