Lucknow 4 Teeswater 1 The first period ended with no score, and with just 37 seconds left in the second, Lucknow got their first goal, scored by Shawn Belmore and assisted by Danny Kerr. When the boys came out in the third, they came on with three more goals scored by Danny Kerr, unassisted, Clint Murray picking up two goals from Chris deJong and Darryl Gibson. Teeswater slipped one by goalie Joel Sutton late in the third period to make the final score 4 - 1 for Lucknow.. Teeswater 5 - Lucknow 3 The second game of the series was back in Lucknow last Thursday evening. Chris deJong scored the first goal for Lucknow from Keith Todd and Clir>t Murray in the first period. Teeswater tied it up in the second period. Matt Drennan picked up a pass from Tom Chilton to put Lucknow ahead 2 - 1, but before the second period ended, Teeswater tied it up again. Once again when they came out in the third period, Lucknow went ahead with a goal by Danny Kerr from Adrian Helm, but Lucknow could not hold the lead. Teeswater fired three more goals past goalie Joel Sutton late in the third for a final score of 5 - 3. Lucknow 3 - Teeswater 2 The final game of the series went back to Teeswater. It was an excellent exhibition of hockey Tor both teams. Teeswater scored the only goal in the first period. Lucknow came out determined in the se- cond period and were able to go ahead with two goals by Clint Murray and Adrian Helm, with assists going to Steven Porter -and Matt Drennan. The boys went ahead by two in the third period with a goal by Matt Drennan from Steven Porter. Teeswater fought back with a goal late in the third but were unable to tie it up. Keith Todd played a good game in net. The Lucknow Atom A's start a series with Seaforth this week. Pee 'Wees tied with Teeswater The Lucknow Anderson Flax Pee Wee team entered the first round of OMHA playoffs against the league leading Teeswater Pee Wees. In three previous match -ups, the best the local boys could do was to score only three goals to eak out one tie and two losses against Teeswater, who are notoriously stingy about giving up goals. The team went to Teeswater on Monday night determined to put the puck past the Teeswater goalie and also tostay out of the penalty box. Lucknow 2 - Teeswater 1 In a hard checking, closely contested game, both goalies were put to the test time and time again with Lucknow's Adam Skillen coming out on top with a brilliant performance between the pipes. He was ably assisted by the Lucknow defence who played their tightest game of the year. Russel Sutton scored the first goal on a screen shot from the blue line and fought hard to keep the puck in the Teeswater zone and himself out of the penalty box. Peter Reavie stopped several break aways with fine, quick thinking work. Terry Stanley and Donnie Cuillerier worked the corners and behind the net well, while keeping the opposition honest in front of the net. • Lucknow's second goal came from Peter Neufeld on another slap shot from the blue line 'which cleanly beat the goalie. All three Lucknow forward 'lines deserve the credit for keeping the pressure on all even- ing. Teeswater did score in the third period on a well executed play on which Skillen was able to make the original save. Teeswater 6 - Lucknow 5 On Friday the two teams met again in Lucknow and played a close, yet high scor- ing game, with both teams determined not to let the other get ahead. Teeswater scored two quick goals in the first four minutes, both by Trevor Met- calfe, who would go on to score a total of five times. Lucknow was not deterred and put 'on the pressure playing five forwards and Dale Priestap beat goalie McPherson on a pass from Chris Stevenson, who later tied the game at two on a superb second effort tak- ing the puck from end to end to score. The second period saw Teeswater twice more take the lead only to have Stevenson even the score assisted by Priestap, Neufeld and Vandervelde. Lucknow went ahead for the first time in the third period on a goal by Mike Vandervelde assisted by Stevenson and Justin Murray. Unfortunately the refer- rees took away the Lucknow 'lead with a poor call which gave Teeswater a power play opportunitywhich they took advan- tage of. . The final goal came with only seven seconds remaining when Lucknow gambl- ed witli the puck in the Teeswater zone and played all forwards. Unfortunately, Met- calfe fed- a clearing pass to Troy Fischer who scored on the break away and won the game. The two teams met again on Monday in Teeswater. Tykes tangle with Goderich A fired -up Lucknow Tyke team met the' Goderich Tykes and with a good team ef- fort Lucknow came up with a 6-6 tie in a game played at home on February 7. Lucknow 6 Goderich 6 The Tykes played their best game of the season, With a fine display of two-way skating in a come -from -behind effort. With 10 seconds left in the game, defenceman Brent Cameron fired one home to give the locals the tie. The Goderich team broke into an early 2-0 lead in the first period with Lucknow closing the gap to one goal on a hard shot by Ian Paolin, assisted by Doug Johnston and J. Jay Humphrey. Soon after, Goderich went ahead 3-1 only to have Lucknow score again with Mark Kerr get- ting the marker from a goal -mouth scram- . ble. Drawing assists were Trevor Moffat and Colin Becker. However, Goderich continued to score with two breakaways resulting in goals to take a 5-2 lead midway through the second period. Lucknow received a break to make the game 5-3 when a shot from I1erman Mulder took a funny hop on its way to the net. ` Goderich scored another goal to make the score 6-3, but, undeterred, the Lucknow- Tykes mounted their big com- eback. The prettiest goal of the game was scored by defenceman Ian Paolin who, on a good effort, took the puck end-to-end to make the score 6-4. Assists went to Peter Adams and Bobby Simpson. With only 15 seconds left in the second period, J.Jay Humphrey pulled the locals within one goal, assisted by Colin Becker. In the third period, the locals pulled out all the stops in an attempt to score the tie- ing goal, and with good pressure, the locals came through with the equalizer, off the stick of Brent Cameron. Of special note was the goaltending job by Graeme Hunter who started his first game in net for the Tykes. Great job, Graeme!
