Brookside students enjoy skating party in Lucknow

On February 6, some of the classes went
skating at the Lucknow Arena. The classes
taking part were the Kindergarten class
and Rooms 3, 7, 8, 9 and 11 and Portable 2.
The other classes will go on February 13.
This is an opportunity for children to skate
under supervision and for beginners to get
a helping hand from an older student.
"All About Me"
Mrs. Young's Grade 1-2 class has been
working on their "All About Me"unit. last
week, the class learned all about Melanie
Nicholson and this week they will learn
about Devon MacDonald. The Grade 1
group has been working with 3-D shapes
and the Grade 2 group has just finished a
BIG unit on Money:
Kindergarten Registration
Kindergarten registration was held at
Brookside on Thursday, February 5 with
Huron County health nurses on hand to
help.
There were 42 children registered for
Kindergarten at Brookside in September
of 1987.
Class learns drama
On Tuesday, Mrs. Ottewell's Grade 3
Room 10 class had Mr. W. Robinson in for
a drama lesson. The class played a concen-
tration game called "Lawyer". The person
beside you is your lawyer and must talk for
you.

In art, the class cut out a black blob and
pasted it on to white paper and colored in
rows around the blob. That was furl-! Shan-
non Cranston and Alicia Campbell are the
Grade 3 reporters.
Lots of speeches
The reporters for Mrs. Tebbutt's Grade 6
Room 7 class are Heather Jefferson and
Janice Webster. The students have just
finished the preliminary round of
speeches. The semi-finalists are Matthew
Strawbridge, Paddy McCann, Janice
Webster, Nathan Daer, Heather Jefferson,
Dana Park, Darryl Gibson, Jodie Riley,
Jodi Webster, Jessica Fairbairn, Barb
Nivins and Michael Cere.
These speakers will be competing on
Thursday and Friday sothat two winners
can be chosen from the class for the final
competition in the school auditorium on
February 12 at 1 p.m.
Bear activities
Miss Mathers' Grade 1 Room 5 class has
been "beary" busy doing bear activities,
songs and reading bear stories. Teddy
bears will be joining the class for a Teddy
Bear's Picnic.
In math, the class has just started a
discussion of time - we will never be late
again.
Cold Water books
Mrs. Clarke's Grade 3 Room 4 class,
Krakatoa, is finishing their Cold Water
books.
And, this week, the class had a "White
and Fluffy Day". On Friday, Mrs. Clarke
gave the students a paper snowflake. The
students were to remember to wear white
on Monday.'Well, everyone was wondering
"what are we going to study?" Can you
guess what the class was going to study?
Popcorn! The class was going to study
popcorn!
The students wrote a story on their own
special kernel of corn. Then, they ate a
bunch of popcorn. Nobody ate much lunch!
And then they held a contest to see who
wore the most white and Chris Curran
