The Lucknow Sentinel, 1987-01-21, Page 9Lancers ruffle Roasters
The Lucknow Lancers, led by their
fearless coach, skated away with a 6-3 vic-
tory over Ripley on the weekend.
Lancers 6 Ripley 3
Grant Gilchrist started the scoring early
in the first on a Lancer powerplay and the
locals never looked back. Minutes later, it
was Gilchrist again beating the Ripley
goaltender and the Lancers led by two.
Steve MacPherson scored one more before
the period ended and the Lancers went to
the dressing room with a contented coach.
The Lancers picked up where they left
off in the second period when Steve Simp-
son added a powerplay marker in the first
minute. Paul Hamilton scored one fair and
square with both teams even and shifty /kt
Clark scored what turned out to be*t 1e
Lancer's last goal.
The Roosters were finally able to get on
the scoreboard in the third period, but it
was too little too late and with some good
saves by Lancers goalie Ron Smith the
game ended 6-3.
Mystery man
Picture in your mind a part-time beef-
cake. Add a little scoring ability. Mix in a
slight tan and a sense of humor. Put all this
together and mystery man Al Eadie comes
to mind. Al is a good utility player as he
plays both centre and the wing and is a
good penalty killer. His hobbies include go-
ing to school, going south and he also en-
joys boat racing.
The Lancers have a busy week ahead Of
them as they travel to Durham Wednesday
night, Kincardine Friday night and host
Jim Keller and the Teeswater Falcons
next Sunday.
Pee Wee A's win last 10
The Lucknow Pee Wee "A's" extended
their unbeaten streak to 10 in a row with
wins this week over Blyth and Ripley.
Lucknow 8 Blyth 0
Derek Turner gained his first shut-olit of
the year in a decisive win over Blyth. The
first scoring in the game occurred early in
the second period when Peter Neufeld
knocked one in on a goal mouth scramble
with assists going to Russel Sutton and
Warren Andrew who played his best game
of the year in hustle and heart.
Near the end of the second period
Lucknow scored three goals in less than a
minute. Two were from Chris Stevenson
who took passes in front and beat the
goalie with well placed shots. The third
was from Adrian Rau who beat the goalie
on a shot from near the blue line. Assists
went to Hunter, Andrew, Rhody, Sutton
and Cuillerier.
The third period saw Lucknow extend
* their lead with goals from Stevenson, his
third of the game, Mike Vandervelde,
Russel Sutton and Dennis Park with
assists going to Brad Rhody, Sutton,
Hunter. and Rau.
Lucknow 4 Ripley 2
Ripley grabbed a two goal lead in the
first with Rob Neable scoring two from
Mark MacLeod and Mark Broer. The next
two periods were hard fought with both
goalies, Art Houghton and Adam Skillen,
being well testedand showing the fans
some marvellous saves.
Rob Crich broke the Lucknow drought
when Gavin Hunter took a pass from
Justin. Murray and slipped the puck bet-
ween the defencemen and Crich cleanly
beat Houghton. Stevenson tied the game
when Brad Rhody fed him a pass after
Dale Priestap had drawn the defence out
of position. Mike Vandervelde put
Lucknow ahead after picking up an Adrian
Rau pass and blasting a shot between the
goalieand the goal post.
The final goal came with two Ripley
players and four Lucknow players in the
penalty box when Stevenson again beat the
goalie with assists going to Sutton and
Vandervelde.
Atom B's lose close game
The Atom "B's" hosted Walkerton last
Saturday and came out on the short end of
a 5-2 score.
Walkerton 5 Lucknow 2
Walkertonscored one goal in the iirst
period and two goals in the second period.
The Lucknow boys were determined to get
a goal, but Walkerton kept the pressure on
and scored two quick goals in the third
period.
With the score 5-0 for the visitors, the
locals were not ready to give up and, at
13:22 of the third, Scott Rintoul made a

Walkerton goalie for Lucknow's first
mark, A the game.
The goal picked up the boys spirits as
they kept pouring on the steam. Dennis
Hogan, with lots of digging and forecheck-
ing, caused a Walkerton player to make a
bad play and stole the puck, skated in and,
with a good wrist shot, put the puck in the
net at 7:17 of the third period.
The boys ran out of time. They had a few
more good shots on net, but to no avail.
The local boys will be representing
Lucknow in a tournament in Walkerton
next Saturday, January 24.
