The Lucknow Sentinel, 1987-01-21, Page 2Page 2^--Lucknow Sentinel, Wednesday, January 21, 1987 two local societies receive grants from .council Lucknow village council - received a grant request from the Lucknow Hor- ticultural Society and the Lucknow Agricultural Society. Council voted to grant the organizations the 'same grant allocation as last year with $500 forwarded WA Agricultural Soeiety and $400 to the Horticultural Society. "They're both very worthwhile pro- jects," said Councillor Ab Murray. Borrowing bylaw Council passed its annual borrowing bylaw --at a limit of $475,000 which, accor- ding to Clerk Bertha Whitcroft, represents 70 per cent of the village's revenues. The figure represents a limit as to the amount the municipality may borrow. Engineering bill B.M. Ross and Associates, the village's engineering firm in charge of the work connected with the proposed sewage works,. sent a copy of a bill to council for $38,450.70 for studies carried out at the Gordon Brooks property. The bill has- been forwarded to the Ministry of ethe Environment. Subdivision agreement A draft subdivision agreement PM been worked out by the village which will set down guidelines for new development in the village, including Allan Andrew's plan to develop his property on the Canning Street extention. Council will have solicitor George Brophy to look over the agreement before it is passed on to Mr. Andrew. Toronto convention A letter was receive from the Good Roads Association of On ario advising of their annual conference in Toronto from February 22 to 25. Lucknow will sent three delegates including Reeve Herb Clark and Councillors Ab Murray and John MacLeod. Salary increase Council voted to give Lucknow waste contractor Floyd Milne a six per cent raise this year on to his salary of $16,900 per year. Call tenders for renovations Council received confirmation that the Community Facilities Improvement Grant to a maximum of $21,000 for improvements to the Lucknow Town Hall has been con- firmed by the Ontario Minister of Citizen-. ship and Culture Lily Monroe. Council mo- tioned that tenders be called for the renovation work to the basement. Coun- cillor John MacLeod declared a conflict of interest in this matter. MTC allocation Lucknow will get an extra $3,400, in their allocation from the Ministry of Transpor- tation and Communications ( MTC) for 1987. Tbis year, Lucknow will be given $43,000 for road contruction in the village and $28,000 for road maintenance. The MTC allocation for 1986 was $67,600. Interim mill rate Council passed an interim mill rate for the village. The interim mill rate was set at 23 mills which represents half of the 1986 mill, rate of 46 mills. The rate will be in ef- fect until the 1987 budget is finalized in September. Road. rebate Liuc1.now reeeived4n Bruce County road rebate of $5,499.95 for 1986. The rebate is made in December to municipalities in the COUNCIL county which submit a statement of road eXpenditures. Letter of thanks Council received a thank -you letter from Huron -Bruce MPP Murray Elston for a gift of cheese for arranging and represen- ting Lucknow council at the meeting with Ontario Minister of. the Environment James Bradley regarding the Lucknow sewage project on November 25. -March of Dimes campaign coming The Ontario March of Dimes will carry out a door-to-door Ability Fund campaign in Lucknow and Dungannon on January 21 -31. At the same time, residents 'in rural areas will receive an appeal letter from Anne Anderson, the new Rural Campaign Chairperson.. Laura Lee Cayley, Cam- paign Chairperson, is looking forward to full community support for funds toward services for physically disabled adults in Ontario. Approximately one in ten adults in On- tario are physically disabled. The Ontario March of Dimes helps physically disabled adults develop their abilities through a • variety of services. They provide assistive devices such as wheelchairs, ramps, and electronic aids; operate summer camps; and have a microcomputer program for vocational training and* education.
