The Pedller roof on the barn, consisting of 2 x 2'"steel sections, is the original from when the 50 x 60 x .50' structure was built in 1912. A few years ago the south corner was . ripped off in -a windstorm and had to be replaced. (Pat Livingston photo) Bruce County historical � Learn to smock society meets in Fortnosa at workshop The fall dinner and annual meet- ing of the Bruce County Historical Society was held in the community centre at Formosa on Saturday, October 26 with a large crowd m attendance. Bruce County has the largest historical society in the province of Ontario. A conducted tour of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church was given by Mary Ditner. Many of those present had' never before seen the wonderful gothic architecture and magnificent carvings and paint- ings of their Bruce County treasure. Several musical numbers provided by the Chepstow Entertainers were enjoyed by all. Gwyneth J. ` Vhilsmitli, of Zur ch, was guest speaker. Her words were filled With humour and, eloquence as she recounted experiences of her family on a . farm . in Brock, Saskatchewan during the years of the depression. These have been recorded in a book, HEAR THE PENNIES DROPPING. She has also compiled a cookbook, FROM GRANNY'S KITCHEN. Mrs. Whilsmith emphasized the import- ance mportance of keeping records, either written or taped, to pass along to one's descendants. Marilyn Bettridge, Assistant Cura- tor at the Bruce County Museum, conducted the installation of the new executive. Kiniough with Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Giffin of Grand Ledge, Michigan, visited here with Mr. and Mrs. Reg Powell, Thelma and her sister Kathleen took in the doll show at Walkerton and enjoyed it. Kathleen Giffin was the guest soloist at the Pentecostal Church on Sunday. Halloween evening was nice for the young and young at heart to go out tricking and treating. It was nice to see everyone. Thelma Powell, to promote reg- ular Sunday School attendance, had balloons with a note inside to come to Sunday School. They let them go and a telephone call came from Kingsville to say that one had arrive there. Last Sunday was the final attendance project called Crazy Clothes. Those with the most exotic clothes were David Hansen, Reg Powell and Brian Dahmer. Nina McDonald spent a day with Mr. and Mrs. Bert Thompson near Teeswater. Visitors with Bill and 'Livable MacPherson, of Holyrood, were her brother and his wife, Margaret and Dean Wilson, of Stoney Creek, who were on their way to Florida for the winter. A smocking workshop will be held on November, 13 at the Bruce County Museum. This workshop will be offered twice that day. For those able to come in the morning, there will be a workshop offered from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Those able to come in the evening can attend the 7 pan. to 10 p.m. work- shop. orkshop. By the end of the instruction, participants will have a Christmas ball decoration to take home. This unique decoration can be given as a gift or hung as a decoration. The cost .of the workshop is $20 for members and $22 for non-members. This includes materials and instruc- tion. For those interested in crafts and pioneer arts, do not miss the out- standing utstanding exhibition of hooked rugs that is presently gracing the walls of the Extensions Gallery. The Saugeen Rug Hookers have put together and exhibition of paintings on wool. The designs, colours and shading is extraordiflary. Be sure to drop by the Museum and see the latest Southampton Arts • Society exhibition. It's worth the visit to the Museum.
