Dance 11, a cardiovascular fitness program
for women, is just completing its second 10
week session of classes, under the direction
of instructor, Diane Ewer of Lucknow,
The program, which is conducted at the
Lucknow Town Hall two nights a week for 10
weeks, is designed to provide a complete
fitness package for women, promoting better
health, a stranger pulmonary system,
increased flexibility as well as muscular
strength and endurance,
As well as toning muscles, the program
exercises the heart and lungs and combined
with a well planned diet can result in weight
changes.
Each session consists of 13 dances which
the students learn over the 10 week ses.skm.
Watishops are held regularly for the
instructors vvItere they learn the choreo-
• graphy for new dances to be presented at the
next session of classes., As a result, there is
no repititk'yn of dances for ladies who choose
to attend more than one session of classes,
Some area ladies have attended both the
spring and fall session Diane has offered,
• The dances consist of three warmup
dames to increase the heart pulse rate. Then
eight dances which are progressively more
demanding, The evening's session is C011-•
eluded with two cool down dances.
The program is designed to suit each
person's needs.
•
The instructor does a health screen for
each person attending the classes at the
beginning of the session. Problems are
identified and a program 1 developed for
each person's level, Everyone learns the
Same dances but each person does them at
her' level, There are three levels: walk, jog
and run.
The dances ere• taught at the walk level
and each person progresses to their own
level with each dance. •
Since the ptogram is •a gradual progres-
• sion, you cannot enter the session during the
last couple of weeks, nor can you only attend
one of the two classes each' week. The
• program is strenuous and gradually more
demanding.
Diane says she is looking for instructors to
teach the program so that it can be expanded
in Lucknow. She tried teaching two sessions
a night back to back, to offer the program to
more women in the spring, but found it too
demanding.. Diane also works full time as a
probation officer, and wants to keep her
dance instruction as something she enjoys 10
do.• •
Potential instructors should be a • non-
- smoker who has attended a minimum of two
session of classes, be willing to attend
Workshops to learn the new choreography,
and willing to attend group practice 'with
