Hallowe'en spooks go trick or treating in Ripley
By Ab Wylds
With rain coining down on
Sunday and again this Mon-
day mornliig, it makes one
feel that it was fortunate that
Hallowe'en was held on
Saturday evening in this
area. It was a nice dry even-
ing and the girls and boys
were out with their friends
and chums going from house
to house.
Many were carrying white
plastic shopping bags. We
noted that, they made the
children more visible on the
streets - something to be
remembered again next
year. Calling here were 28
young people starting with
Tammy Fludder and Nancy
Nugent and ending about
nine thirty with Tim Scott
from the 12th concession,
two blocks north of Ripley
and friends Bob Blackwell
from the 4th concession, two
blocks south on the 15th and
Shawn Crewe from the 4th
con. of Bruce, north of Tiver-
ton.
Fran and Ab enjoyed talk -0
ing with each group. They
were all kind and polite.
Later it was .nice to watch
the tired youngsters making
their way back home. Listen-
ing to the news on Sunday
one realizes the high calibre
of young people here..
Thanks goes to their parents
and teachers, for their in-
structions_and to the, Provin-
cial Police. from Kincardine
and to the Ripley Firemen on
patrol past midnight.
Following the Indian sum-
mer weather of .last week
Mrs. Dorothy Wardell of the.
4th Con. west in Huron
township was .able to pick a
handful of tame raspberries
on Monday morning this
week in her garden.
• On Tuesday of last week
Mrs. Marion McTavish
underwent surgery in Kin-
cardine and. District
Hospital.
Last Wednesday Pat Bren-
nan underwent surgery on
her hand in Westminster
hospital in London. At Carl
and his wife Pat were away
last week their daughter
Mrs. Shelley Barker, her
husbandLarry and young
son Dustin of Collingwood
were in Ripley and Shelley
operated the Ripley grocery
store. This week Shelley and
Larry Barker are in Toronto
when their son Dustin
undergoes surgery on his
nose and ear in Mississauga
hospital.
Recently home to Ripley
from hospitals are Annie
Scott, Adeline Hackett, Etta
Dickieson and Mildred
• Johnson.
Bill Robertson of Metro
Toronto drove up to Ripley
last Wednesday afternoon to
visit the home farm on Con-
cession 10 east in Huron
township. For the next cou-
ple of days he visited
neighbOurs and friends
returning to Toronto on the
weekend: Late in July Bill
made a similar trip..
Last Tues., Oct. 26, Mrs.
Frank BarkWell of Toronto
and Mrs. Stewart Brook of
Ripley held a surprise birth-
day party for their father ,
Oliver Smith who will be 80
years of age on Dec. 21. It
was held at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Oliver Smith on
Queen Street west in Ripley.
In attendance were Mr.
and Mrs. Brian Douglas and
daughters from Southamp-
ton, Mr. and Mrs. Ron
Douglas and daughters and
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Douglas
