very kind of you to allow me the space.
I wonder sometimes what I'd• ever do
without you.
We're in the .final stage of the run
up . to . Assembly Elections here!
• triggering off a new intensity of
violence which you may have heard
about, 11 deaths in the past month
alone. To -day two men have survived
murder attempts, one by a booby. trap.
on his farm, the other a headmaster
gunned down in front of his class of
ten -year-olds as he gave them relig-
ious instruction. Three weeks after
being shot as she left church, a
20 -year-old Sunday School teacher has
died. In the midst of our own troubles,
our hearts went out to you when news'
came through of the bombing in
Toronto. Violence is a very \strange
argument, isn't it? Can the justice of
any cause be strengthened by such
horror? I don't think so.
Our W.A.A.F. Reunion was a great
success with one of the most honoured
guests ex-Waaf Mrs. Irene Palmer
from Toronto where her dadghter runs.
a magazine, her son is a radio
announcer and her husband writes,
obviously a very gifted family,
You'll be interested to hear that
next year's reunion is to be held in'
Halifax, Nova Scotia, so you can
spread the word. They're hoping for a
good turnout and quite a number of
ex-Waafs hope to travel from Eng-
land, Scotland, Wales and Northern
Ireland to take part. A. really fine three
day program has been organized.
One of our members who keeps, in
touch with . Southern Irish ex-Waafs
also hopes to travel out from Dublin,
hopefully bringing a party with her.
Between them niaybe they'II persuade
more Canadians to attend our next
Northern Ireland Reunion in 1984.'
Again, many thanks for publishing
my letters, Greetings to you, your staff
and all my ' friends with a special
"welcome home" to Mrs. Lobb. and
Janet who should be safely back by the
time this reaches you.
Sincerely,
- Mollie Whiteside.

Re: Jamboree '83 Picture
published October.13.
I ' have done some back tracking in
my mind after seeing the picture in the
paper. No doubt by this time William
Andrew in the back brow will have
supplied all the missing names.
Wouldn't be surprised .if some of the
boys are still livingthat havenot been
• named.
My good wife, Orelle, went through
our old pictures that we still have and
found mine. 'It is bettet, than the one in
the Sentinel and doubtif there are
many boys still have one now.
The group was called the Lucknow
High School Cadets and the picture
was taken in June 1918. If it was in
September, . Harvey McDougall and
John D. Ross should be in it.
That was the time of the war and we
were training for future recruits. The
hats were all the same except for size
and were very •smart looking.
The picture could have been taken
the day of inspection. We got a half
holiday (afternoon) that day. There
were two men in uniform up for it and
we put on a good show, doing our
marching and drills, etc. When the
war ended, that was the end of ;the
training.
Where you have McClure I think it
is Ian McCrae. He stayed at Dr.
Elliott's and looked after his horses,
later taking his daughter, Winnifred
for his wife.
I am going to suggest a few names;
' ask William Andrew if any of these are
in there: Harold. Agnew, Cam Thomp-
Cast your vote
on disarmament
To the Editor:
There is a new movement alive in municipal politics,
international in scope. We out here must tune into it.
The referendum on general disarmament is a chance for
people to have a voice in their future, the right to participate
inwhat the United Nations has called the choice` between
Disarmament and annihalation.
Do the people of this area realize that some of the elected
councillors are denying them the right to individually vote
on this crucial question concerning the arms race and it's
threat to human survival?
Do they care?
i propose that we be given an opportunity in the form of
the enclosed ballot for people to cut out and send to -

When government negotiations on disarmament have.
continued for 35 years with no concrete results and the
escalating arms race makes the world daily a more
dangerous place, it's time for you and I to become involved.
From Pauli Sommer,
R. R. # 1 Dungannon.
Do you support the goal of General Disarmament and
mandate your government to negotiate and implement,
with other governments, the balanced steps that would
lead to the earliest possible achievement of this goal?

son, Morgan Henderson, Tom Alton.
Was there another Murdock boy?
Are there no old school records of
the classes in that time? The Sentinel
might . have some old school reports.

rew: He looks like 'Russel McDougals
chum.
I was going to call and then decided
to write, Sorry I. can't help you more.
We hope our health will continue to be
good so we can attend the reunion in
1983.
Sincerely,
Cecil H. Johnston.
