Ashfield township council candidates
Clete Dalton
Clete Dalton is running for deputy -reeve
of Ashfield to give ratepayers the oppor-
tunity to elect a deputy -reeve. He wants to
bc involved in local affairs and feels the
township will have to practise good business
• measures in these hard economic times, by
keeping the mill rate down thereby
benefiting the people of the township.
President of the Ashfield Township of
.Federation of Agriculture, Dalton farms in
Ashfield Township and Bruce. County. A
director on the St. Joseph's Roman Catholic
Parish Council, Kingsbridge, and a member
of the Goderich Knights of Columbus,
Dalton also sits on the Ashfield Township
Recreation Committee.
A life long resident of the township,
Dalton and his wife, Mary Louise have a
young family of four, Jennifer, Ray, Cathy
and John S.

Allan Gibson
Allan Gibson has served 10 years on
council and as senior councillor decided to
run for deputy -reeve when the position
became available.
During his stint on council, Gibson has
served as chairman of the Lucknow Arena
Board and Lucknow District Fire Board. Bill and his wife, Suzanne have three

Gibson wants to see the continued
re -construction of township roads and while
he wants to keep control of township affairs
,in the hands of the local council, he points,
out there are many, things, such as road'
subsidies, which council has little control
over. He also notes that anyone who thinks
they can come on council and change, the
control the province has over township
affairs is mistaken.
Gibson and his wife, Nancy farm in
Ashfield. They have a family of three, Diane,
Glen and Brenda.
Dill Andrew
A past president of the Lucknow Co-op,
Bill Andrew farms in Ashfield Township. He
participates in the field crop competition at
the Lucknow Fall Fair each year and is a
member of the Huron County Federation of
Agriculture.
Interested in township affairs, Andrew
wants local councils to have more control
over the decisions that are made which affect
ratepayers and more control of the spending
of tax dollars.
Wawanosh votes for reeve
Jim Aitchison
Having served eight years on council, Jim
Aitchison believes everyone, who is capable,
should take a turn serving on the township
council.. Against .regional government, Ait-
chison hopeslocal interest in the municipal
affairs will keep what control remains in the
hands of the township council, in their
grasp..
• Aitchison is not in favour of a three year
term for council. He believes the ratepayers
should have a say every two years, but as litk
other areas, the local council has no say in
the matter.
Aitchison has farmed in West Wawanosh
for 30 years. He and his wife, Cecilia, have
thrte grown children, Jack, Verna and Doug
and seven grandchildren.

As well as his interest in politics,
Aitchison shows horses at area fall. fairs.
J. D. Durnhi
Reeve J. D. Durninsays he'll make no
promises going into the next three year term
on council.
He has served a total of eight years in'two
different terms on council and has been
reeve of the township for 2% years. He has
enjoyed his term as reeve and continues to
he interested 'in the township business as
well as the county' affairs considered at
county council. t
A life time resident of West Wawanosh,
Durnin has farmed all his life in the
township. Durnin and his wife, Grace have
two children.
Grant Carron
Grant Curran has four years experience on
Ashfield Township council. During his term,
he has represented the township on the
Huron Farm Safety Association and acted as
\member of the township recreation commit-
tee.
A vice-president of the Ashfield Township.
Federation of Agriculture, Curran is a past
chairman of the absentee ownership commit-
tee for the Huron Federation of Agriculture.
Curran has found his .term on council
interesting •and enjoys working with the
people in the township. Looking to the
future, he sees - more money being raised
locally as federal and provincial govern-
ments tighten their purse strings.
•Curran farms in Ashfield with his wife,
Sandy. They have three teenage children,
• Annette, Lavonne and Murray.
Ebner Draper ,.
A life long resident Of Ashfield Township,
Elmer Draper has decided to seek election
because he wants a representative from the
GrantFarrish.
southern portion of the township on council.
•Draper is a member of Goderich Legion
Branch 109 and is employed with Champion
Road. Machinery where he has worked for 24
years. Previously- he sailed for 16 years.
Draper lives on a small farm and his son,
Brian, and his family live with him.
• Grant Farrish
• Grant Farrish has served on Ashfield
Township council for 8 years. During that
time he has been the township representa-
tive to the Maitland Valley Conservation
Authority and sits. on the Lucknow Arena
Board. If re-elected, he will be chairman of
the Arena Board in 1983. •
Grant is a member of the Lucknow Lions
Club: He and his wife, Lois have two
daughters, Barbara and Janet.
Farrish wants to continr on council to see
• the upgrading of township roads which are
easily blocked by winter snow. Once road
reconstruction is completed, he hopes to see
concession 4 repaved and eventually addi-
tional roads in the township paved. The
• conclusion of road projects in the township
will depend on the road subsidy available
from the Ministry of Transportation.
