"Believe 'It or Not" -it
fire whistle time in Ripley
-during.the first part of last
week. The sound of the siren
was heard ' four, times in
three . days. On Sunday,
August 15 the firemen were
called to Point Clark to look
for a burning car. On Mon-
day they went two blocks
south of Ripley to the west
farm. of Bob Blackwell at the
corner of the 4th Concession.
1
Here Mike . Hunter of the
Sixth Concession , west was
baling the straw into those
big round bales when . fire •
broke out: The baler was
destroyed' along with eleven
large bales and about one
quarter of the forty acre
field before the fire was con-
tained and put out. On Tues-
day afternoon the siren
sounded and the truck
travelled north from Ripley.
Smoke clouds rising on the
north horizon could be seen
from thig main intersection
of Ripley. At the farm of
ELson Arnold a truck work-
ing in the field had ignited
the dry straw. It is reported
that when the call was made
to Kincardine they were in-
structed to call Ripley. Then
it was realized that the North
Line in Kincardine.Township
was really in the Kincardine •
fire area and so the Kincar-
dine fire department
responded and the Ripley
truck was contacted on its
way out and it . returned to
Ripley. • .
