The fields 'scored as follows out of 100 points - Bob Scott 91, Dan MacDonald 90, Stewart Farrell 89,,. Francis Boyle 88%, BW. Scott 88, Hugh Mason 87, Wes Smith 86, Wayne Fitzgerald 8544 Cecil Sutton 85, tim Scott 84, Jim Scott (Con. 4) 83, Carl. In her 92nd year ' she was . the widow of the late Wm., . E. Fleming (1955) and the wife of L. Earl Lohnes. Her son James K. Fleming of Embro, her three daughters Myrtle (Mrs. Shelby Williams) of Burford, Margaret (Mrs. William Green). and Mary (Mrs:' Willard Mackay) both of Embro; her brother Lloyd Karn of Woodstock, her two, sisters Miss Violet Karn of Walkerton and Marjorie (Mrs. Peter. Wilde) of Cann- ington and her sister-in-law Mrs. Irene Karn of Woodstock and 21 grand- children. and 25 great- grandchildren and her hus- band Earl • Lohnes of Woodstock are the sur- vivors, The funeral service was held at the M.D. Smith Funeral•Home in Woodstock last Thursday afternoon. In- terment wasin the North Embro Cemetery. For a number of years Mr. and Mrs. Earl Lohnes lived , in Ripley where their home was at the corner of Ripley and Railway Streets east of the post office. Gertrude Mackay, Mrs. Merle (Jim) Tout, and Mrs. Reta Irwin attended the funeral of Mrs. Earl Lohnes in Woodstock on Aug. 19: They also visited Mr. Lohnes at the Maples Nursing Home in Tavistock and they called on Rev, .. and Mrs. George Ball in Milverton. +++ "Believe 'It or Not" -it fire whistle time in Ripley -during.the first part of last week. The sound of the siren was heard ' four, times in three . days. On Sunday, August 15 the firemen were called to Point Clark to look for a burning car. On Mon- day they went two blocks south of Ripley to the west farm. of Bob Blackwell at the corner of the 4th Concession. 1 Here Mike . Hunter of the Sixth Concession , west was baling the straw into those big round bales when . fire • broke out: The baler was destroyed' along with eleven large bales and about one quarter of the forty acre field before the fire was con- tained and put out. On Tues- day afternoon the siren sounded and the truck travelled north from Ripley. Smoke clouds rising on the north horizon could be seen from thig main intersection of Ripley. At the farm of ELson Arnold a truck work- ing in the field had ignited the dry straw. It is reported that when the call was made to Kincardine they were in- structed to call Ripley. Then it was realized that the North Line in Kincardine.Township was really in the Kincardine • fire area and so the Kincar- dine fire department responded and the Ripley truck was contacted on its way out and it . returned to Ripley. • . By last • Friday noon August 20 the old Ripley Fall Fair hall . was down. Keith Carter who recently bought it from the village. of Ripley along with Don Peterbaugh and a couple more men had finished the dismantling job. The site has been cleaned • and levelled. The last fall fair held in the hall was 1. in September -1948 when Murray Campbell was president, . Bert Breckenridge treasurer, Ab and Fran Wylds secretaries. Keith . hauled the usable material to. his farm on the 10th • Concession and the waste material was taken 'to the dump. • Corinne MacDonald was back home visiting with her parents John C. and Mary MacDonald this past weekend, Corinne had,just returned from Roadton on the Island of Tortola, one of the British Virgin Islands in the Caribbean region where she spent July and August in- structing 70 teachers in a music program. She was one of a team of three teachers on the project.
