Quiet in the land returns to Blyth Festiva!,
• Returning to the Blyth
Summer Festival by popular
demand is Quiet in the Land
by Anne Chislett. Quiet in the
Land boasted attendance of
92 per cent last summer and
tremendous critical ac-
claim:
"Blyth's hit also its
worthiest drama," Ray
Conlogue, Globe and Mail.
"Quiet in the Land another
Blyth success," Doug Bale,
London Free Press.
"Blyth • Festival provides
sdlid fare with Canadian
play, about Amish," James
Portman, Southern News.
•
The success of this gentle
drama has brought a. tour
booking in Waterloo,
Ontario, September 21 to 25
and two productions in
association with Blyth in
Toronto and Montreal. Guy
Sprung's own • theatre
Toronto Free and Centaur
Theatre, Montreal will
provi, de their own casts while
Blyth provides the sets,
costumes and properties.
Quiet in the Land was
specifically commissioned
for the Blyth Summer
Festival and researched by
Ms. Chislett in Waterloo and
Huron Counties. It is set in
an Amish community at the
time of the first World War.
War threatens the country
and therefore, threatens to
destroy the separateness and
pacifism that' has preserved
the Aniish throughout 400
years of faith. While cornr
pelling and thought
provoking, Quiet in the Land
is also a humorous and
colorful play.
Guy Sprung is back to
direct. Most recently, he
directed the much acclaimed
