Ripley news
Keith Carter of the Tenth
Concession west in Huron
Township has started
• dismantling the remaining
north end of the old Ripley
fall fair hall located across:.
the road from St. Andrews
U'nite'd Church in the south
part of the village. The 1948
Ripley fall fair under presi.
dent Murray Campbell was
the last one held there. The
1949. fair with president Bert
Mason was moved to the
Huron Township Hall and
the Memorial Park (ball
park) back of thehall. Most.
of the indoor display was
moved to the new
auditorium of the Ripley
District . High' School when
Gordon Patterson was presi-
dent.
The 1975 fair. was held in
the new Ripley Huron Com-
munity Centre Complex,
Morley Scott president of the
fair.
Getting back to the old fall
fair • hall in its day it was the
centre for winter sports !n.
Ripley such as skating,
hockey; broom ball, and
curling. From 1927 - 28 with
buildingof the 'new Jubilee
arena (the first metal arena
in this part of Western On-
tario) the winter sports were
transferred to the- north end
of Ripley. After 1948 Huron
township used it as a garage
and storage place. Recently
the village of . Ripley ac -,a
quired it and used it for
garage storage for its equip -
meet. In the falls of 1948 and
49 it was used by the R.C.S..
for pyramid practice getting
ready' for •school concert& So
in its existence It has served
several needs.
