Searches family roots in Ripley •

On Tuesday afternoon of
last week Doris Wilkinson of
Kildare Street in London was
in Ripley seeking
background information . on
her grandfather and. father,
Alfred and Albert Woodgate.
They lived in the Ripley area
back at the start of, this cen-
tury before selling their
business and moving away.
In the gentle drizzle .falling
at intervals she was going to
the Ripleycemetery to look
for names on the stones
there.

hold its monthly meeting in

Mrs. Gene Baker of Nova
Scotia visited her sister and
family in St. Catharines and,
is spending ' the rest of July '
and August "in Lucknow with
Eleanor and IKen \ Harman
and Steven. Gene made
many new friends here last,
year and hopes to renew 'old
acquaintances this time
around.

aunt, Mrs. Mary Hogan of
Lucknow, over the holiday.

turned home the past week-
end after spending two
weeks in Florida in May and
spent the rest of the three
months among the family, on -
account of illness.
George and Olive Colwell
of Lucknow entertained Shir-
ley and Ray Gliders for a
turkey dinner on Sunday
evening• to celebrate the oc-
casion of George's 75th
birthday.

day were Mr. and . Mrs:• Joe
Ostachuk, Pauline and
Bryan of '. Corunnavisiting
with Mr. and Mrs. Jim.
Stewart, Sandra and Ross at
their home on Queen Street
east. Mrs. Marilyn Ostachuk
and Mrs. Bev Stewart are
sisters.
Joe brought along his
metal detector and on Fri-
day he was sweepina in Gore
Park as -he did three years
ago. He also tried the site of
the old : Ripley town hall on
Blake street and . the= -.en-
trance to theold fall fair
grounds south of St. Andrews
United Church. This. should
be a good place to find lost
coins except it has been
covered with gravel fill and
this seems to be the case for
all prime sites in Ripley.
Last Friday a 1932 copper
was Located in Gore Park
andk three years ago Joe
found a 1927 medallion there,.
It was one of those, minted a
for the. Diamond Jubilee of
Confederation.
Last week with its` rain
showers on Tuesday and; Fri-
day was described as having
typical wheat weather•
warm and moist. Hence it
was not the best conditions
for harvesting the fall wheat.

Four girls from Ripley
spent last week Sunday to
Saturday at Camp Kintail.
They were Ainslie Martyn,
Lauren. Burgess, : Christine
Wright and Tammy Fludder.
For Tammy and Christine
it was their third summer at
the .. Presbyterian Camp
down the sideroad west from
Kintail. All were back home
last Saturday July 31. While
there they * were busy doing
•Bible study, swimming,
crafts, nature hikes, camp
outs and singing to mention
some activities.

train with engine 4533 passed
through Ripley on its way to
the Bluewater Agromart
