Katie's Krafts
Katie Kerslake of R. 2, Staff showed a craft new to the Lucknow Craft Festival when she.
exhibited wheat weaving at the festival this past weekend. While.the craft was a new exhibit
• at. the Lucknow festival, It is an ancient rare! craft usually done at harvest or Thanksgiving.
Many. cultures have their own traditional designs, considered 'good luck'. pieces, platting
weaving and tying from the bads for most designs. Ahnost.'a lost art, this craft has been,
recently revived in Europe and Britain, and l* becoming popular as 'straw weaving' hi North
America. Katie, who learned the craft from an Elmira woman, make*• corn dolly*, double,

expectedly .the other day for
a ten day visit. While here he
attended the wedding and
reception of his cousin, Rod-
dy MacDonald on Friday ev-
ening and the MacDonald
reunion on Saturday.
Barbara Shepperd, of Par-
is, Ontario spent a couple of
days last weekend with her
parents, Charles and Mayme
Wilkins.
Ross and Jean MacKenzie
had their three granddaught-
ers, Cheryl, Amanda and
Wendy MacKenzie, daught-
ers of Bill and Barbara Mac-
Kenzie of Goderich, for a few
days. holidays,
Janet Wilkins of Paris,
Ontario spent a couple of,
days with her parents, Char-
les and Mayme Wilkins.

Donald -Carter wedding and
reception Friday evening and
the MacDonald reunion on
Saturday were Mrs. Donald
Murray, of Detroit.; Mrs.

Phaedra and Ryan of . Grosse
Point, Michigan; and Robb
and. Mary Butkoff and their
children, Eric and Veathny of,
Chicago, Illinois.
On Wednesday afternoon
Mayme Wilkins entertained
about 40 children and their
counsellors of the One Parent
Camp of Menesetung Camp
for an hour or so. The
children were very interested
in seeing all the small ani-
mals and fowl on the farm,
Mr. and Mrs. Charles
Wilkins had their cousins,
Laura and Mabel Campbell
of Toronto visit with them for
a few hours on Saturday.

MacDonald and Barbara Car-
ter on their wedding which
took place Friday evening.

ic, Janet Lane, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Lane,
and Dawn. Nicolson, daught-
er of Mrs. Anne Nicolson,
concession 10. The girls are
pupils of Marion Gamble of
Ripley.
Wendy Boyle of Moose
Jaw, Saskatchewan and Mrs.
Laurine ' Wright of. Gorrie
visited on Wednesday with
Edna and May Boyle.

ed the Lucknow Craft Fest-
ival on Friday and Saturday.

returned to St. Catharines
after spending a few days
with his mother, Mrs. Mo-
retti Hodgins.

onto visited with relatives
here over the holiday week-

grandparents; and Mr. and
Mrs. Hulley, of Monkton,
great grandparents were also

Mr. and Mrs. Ken Brown
and family of North Burnaby,

vacationing here with relativ-
es, returned home this week.
Melvin C. Orr
Melvin C. Orr passed away
in University Hospital Lon-
don on July 23, 1982. Over the
years Mr. Orr had operated
a shoe repair shop in
Lucknow, Hanover and then
Chesley.
Melvin Orr was born in.
Culross Township on May 29,
1902, the son of Robert Orr
and Elizabeth Lockhart. On
October 14, ,1924 he married
Mabel Fritzley of Goderich,
who predeceased him in
1967.
The late Mr. Orr is surviv-
ed by his family Helen, Mrs,
David Henderson of Ripley;
Bud of Wiarton; Opal," Mrs.
Claude Dore of Holyrood and
Marvin of Warkworth,
eleven grandchildren and six
great-grandchildren, also
two brothers, Andy of Exeter
and Ifni of Parkhill.
He was predeceased by
one sister, Ella Mae and one
infant daughter.
Mr. Orr was a memberof
the R.C.A.F. during World
War II and served overseas.
He was a member of the
Royal Canadian Legion
Branch 144.
He was a faithful member,
of Geneva Presbyterian
Church, Chesley. .
The funeral service was
held in the Emke - McF'ad-
den Funeral Chapel. in
Chesley on July 25, 1982 with
interment in South Kinloss
Cemetery, Luckr w.
