both are 100 years old,

Last Saturday, July 31,

W Culbert,, well-known
and just recently retired
storekeeper here, died in
University Hospital in Lon-
don. About mid -week he was
transferred there from Kin-
cardine hospital where he
was a patient for a brief
time. The funeral service
was held yesterday after-
noon Tuesday August 3 at 3.
p.m, at the MacKenzie Mc-
Creath Funeral Home in
Ripley, interment was in the
Ripley .. Cemetery. Conduc-
ting the service were Rev.
Phillip Ruch of St. Pauls'
Anglican Church, Ripley. and
Rev. George Garrett of
Lucknow.
Surviving are his wife the
former Annie Bowers, two
daughters Shirley,. Mrs.
George Sled of and
Katherine, Mrs. Ken
:Kirkland of Milton and son
Tom of Ripley, also seven
David and Joyce Ellis and'
daughters Christine,
Susanne, and Andrea
Motored across Canada
from Vancouver to the Sault
and 'then through Michigan
to Port Huron and across the
border to Sarnia and up
here. They . ; arrived. last

undergoing surgery in

Just at midnight last Sun-
day as a thunder storm was
passing over this area the
Ripley fire whistle sounded.

on.the Norval Stewart farm
just up the, road froth the
Olivet corner had been
struck by lightning. Danny

both the Stewart and Mac -
Charles farms' there. Ripley

Maverostie enjoyed a fifteen
day, holiday. They flew from
Toronto to Whitehorse • and
then by bus went on to Tok in
Alaska, Anchorage and Fair-
banks, then to Dawson and
Whitehorse in Yukon and
back . to Swagway.' From'.
there they took the Pacific
Princess and cruised down
the .`Inside Passage' ' to ' Vic-
toria. They flew home from
Vancouver. While in Daw-
son, Mary and Carol were
fortunate to be entertained
by the Gammie families,

recovery. Fraser is a patient
in Wingham hospital.
John and Donna Carter
and Leonard Irwin returned
on Saturday after holidaying -
for a' week at North Bay.
They took a tour for a day on
the Commander II from
North Bay down the French
River; John and Pat visited
with Dave Milne of Calendar,
formerly, of Lucknow, . whom
they have not seen in about
40 years.
Margaret Maclntyre spent
10 days holidaying with her
were, fire chief Ivan Cook,
Bob Johnston; Ray Fuller,
Jack Scott, Don Peterbauugghh,
Harvey Pollock; Bill Robin=
son, George McLean, Brian
Pollock, Bernie Twolan, and
Ted Rouse. They worked for
two hours and put the fire
out. The house suffered roof
and upstairs damage. •
