Country Ikartopens atBlyth
Put, together storm -stayed
travellers and locals, a count-
ry and western band, draft
on tap, Ted John's .humour,
and John Roby's music and
you've got Blyth's musical;
Country Hearts.
Opening at the. Festival,
August 3, .Country Hearts is
already selling quickly -- five
of twelve showssold out. It's
the winning' combination of
Blyth favourites that has this
show breaking box office
records before its debut. ,
Ted Johns has spent
nights researching this sal-
oon set party to give, authen-
ticity to the slurred spoken
word. In contrast to the 431
days Ted sustained his Barn
sit in last year in the big hit
He Won't Come In From The
Barn, he has been sampling
hops not hay this year. Ted is
known to Blyth audiences as
author and star of the School
Show and author of St. Sam
and the Nukes.
John Roby cut his teeth on
country music in Nova Sco-
tia; He'll be composing, ar-
ranging, playing, performing
but not talking in Country.
Hearts, John is known to
Blyth audiences for his music
in The Life That Jack Bulit
and Fire on Ice And for
imp>omptu piano concerts in.
the hail basement before the.
show. Last summer, John
composed for another west-
ern musical, Country chor-
ale. It was so popular, with
Edmonton audiences that
Theatre Network will tour' it
about Alberta this year.
Country Hearts is a' large
cast show, elevent stranded
folks int all. Many Blyth
regulars, are ,featured: Wil-
liam Dunlop, Patricia Van-
sonte, Claude Rae, Denise
Kennedy, Robert Nasmith,
Robert King, and Janet
Amos. The country quartet is
made up .of new Blythites:
Connie Kaldor comes
to Blyth concert
On August 8, at 2.00, .the
Blyth Summer. Festival feat-
ures its first summer music
concert. Connie Kaldor will
sing, play and generally act
up.
.; . Connie has recently releas-
ed her fourth album called
"One of These Days' and it
is selling quickly in Western
Canada. It's witty and clever;
punctuated with powerful
imagery; filled with the
flavour of country living.
Originally from Saskatche-
wan Connie now makes her
home in Alberta and . it is
from the West that she draws
her independence and her
imagination.
It clear from her remark-
able stage.presence that she
„ has put to good use her
degree in theatre- = acting
from U. of A not to mention
her years ' of performance in
many of Canada's major
theatres, in television and in
film. Connie was .seen by
Western Ontario audiences
in Shakes,eare for Fun and
Profit with Theatre Passe
Muraille. She has also. per-
formed with The Mummers
in Newfoundland and 25th
Street House in Saskatoon.
