Leave for Chapeau
•
BY AB WYLDS
Last Wednesday, June 30,
Norm Barnard left Ripley
with his car and trailer in
tow accompanied by Martin
and Hilda Phelan and their
daughters Tracy and Becky
bound for Chapeau about a
four hundred mile trip.
Chapeau is on Allumette
bland , in the northern
reaches of the Ottawa River
on the Quebec side. This is a
beautiful, unspoiled and un-
polluted part of La Belle Pro-
vhice. The scenery with its
lakes and rivers, is
• beautiful. The nearest large
town, 12 miles south, is Pem-
broke on the Ontario side of
the river. Norm and Martin
arrived back in Ripley on
Sunday evening. Hilda and
daughters are holidaying in
Chapeau for two weeks. We
are sorry to report that the
health of Mr. Phelan Sr. is
quite poor.
In the list of the ten top
milk producers in Bruce
County for 1981 as announc-
ed on Monday of this week
Kermit Goodhue of the Se-
cond Concession West in
Huron township was third.
Rev. and Mrs. Stanley J.
Gibson were guests with Mr,
and Mrs. Lester Ferguson
during last week. On Tues-
day they drove from Mon-
treal where Stanley has
ministered for. the past 15
years in the Montreal West
United Church. They and
their two small sons, Stanley
Jr. and Harry, left St. An-
drews United Church in •
Ripley 33 years ago. This
past week they visited Mr.
and Mrs. John MacMurchy
and Mr. and Mrs. Wm.
Ferguson in Lucknow, Mr.
and Mrs. Doug Eadie in Kin-
cardine, and in Ripley with
Mrs. Gibson's aunt Mrs.
W.J. Mackay at Huron Villa
and called on Morford
Mackay on Christina Street.
They spent Friday with long
time friends Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Osborne of Olivet, On
Saturday they went to Sar-
nia, another former charge.
Jean MacDonald of the
Pinecrest Manor Nursing
Home in Lucknow was with
her sister Noreen Mac-
Donald last weekend at their
home on Malcolm Street in
Ripley.
For more than an hour last
Saturday morning nine
young boys and girls and a
man used the equipment and
grass lawn,I In Gore Park to
have some good outdoor fun.
At one point he got four of the
small children on one end of
the teeter totter plank while
he get on the other end and
then proceeded to give the
children the up and down
ride. At the- end of the fun
time all gathered around one
of the picnic tables and en-
joyed a treat. Then they
gathered up the papers for
the garbage barrel.
Then Ab Wylds went
across the road to the park to
compliment them on the way
they had used Gore Park.
The man was Marshall
Walker from Brampton. He,
his wife, and their three
children were visiting for the
weekend with Doug and
Shirley MacDonald on the
12th Concession east, two
blocks north of Ripley. Mar-
shall was looking after the
children while his wife, Doug
and Shirley were at the Auc-
tion Sale. Now we told the
young folks that we would
list their names in the news.
• In the group there were, four
MacDonald's, three
Walker's, and two Lotton's.
They were Ian, Sheena,
Stephanie, and Andrew Mac.'
Donald; Christen, Robin,
and Torin Walker of Bramp-
ton; and , Gabe and • Adam
Lofton, .S4 young folks keep
on playing and leave things
unbroken so that others can
come after you and enjoy the
equipment as , you did on
Saturday.
A large crowd attended the
Auction Sale of household ef-
fects, antiques, and real
estate last Saturday July
3rd, for Hamilton and Annie
MacKinnon of Queen Street
West in Ripley opposite the
Knox Presb rian Church.
The sale of antiques, fur-
niture, and various
household items was held in
the Huron Township Garage
at the east end of Malcolm
Street with auctioneers
Grant McDonald \\ of the 2nd
Concession in Huron
Township and Wallace
Ballagh of Teeswater and
Clerk Lloyd McNeil of
Lucknow. -
It was a perfect summer
day and the parked cars fill-.
ed the grounds at the Garage
and west on Blake,
Christina, and Malcolm
,Streets nearby. Since almost
everyone was where the ac-
tion was, there were few
cars up street Through the
noon hour there was one car
on the main street. The sale,
which was reported •to have
gone well, was over shortly
after dinner. Then a convoy •
of vehicles went from the
Garage down to the home of
Hamilton and Annie
MacKinnon where the house
and lot were offered for sale.
However the bidding did not
meet the reserved bid so the
real estate remains unsold.
Some of those helping to
Move the articles to the
Garage on Friday were Rod
MacDonald, Doug Mac-
Donald, Doug Martyn, and
John C. MacDonald. •
Don Barnard of Toronto
was home for the holiday
weekend visiting , with •his.
parents Norm and Mabel
Barnard on Christina Street
In Ripley and attended the
Saturday auction sale. He
also visited with his sister
Shirley and husband Michael
Burnham in Kincardine.
Last week the list of va-
cant houses in Ripley went '
up . by another one. The
residence of Allan Mackay
at the corner of Jesse and •
Ripley streets, east of the
Ripley Post Office, was
vacated on the First of July
when Paul Trimeau moved.
