"That's what the students are entitled to and what the taxpayers are paying for," Bpwers said this week. He said since the three superintendents were hired in 1969, the staff has increased by 31 per cent. Increasing too, is the number'. of personnel matters that require attention everything from verifying salary categories for teachers to monitoring their sick leave requirements. Bowers also pointed out that BM 100 has significantly changed the manner in which salary negotiations are handled.' It is now putting increasing demands on the' time of administrative staff who must deal with these matters. "An unbelievable additional burden" has been put on staff too, with the new special education ' legislation announced . by the provincial ministry of education, said Bowers. ' Add to this the requirement for writing and developing courses of study from ministry guidelines ' - this work used to be; doneat the provincial level - and Bower feels there is ample evidence .that Paul Cole will be a busy man as ' Superintendent , of Personnel. - Bowers said the board is interviewing this week for the principal's position which has opened up- in Port Elgin. becanse of Mr. Cole's appointment. d Check :11 interest rebate available The five per cent interest rebate is a popularoption of the Ontario Farm Adjust- ment Assistance. Program (OFAAP) but the important June 30 deadline is fast approach. Ting. The interest; reduction grant can be retro- active . to January 4, : 1982 if it (is recommended by the Case Committee: Applicants' who are applying for a retroactive interest rebate must have their application to their banker so that it is date stamped no later than June 30.: , After June 30, the interest reduction grant will be effective from the date of approval'. In all cases, the grant isfor a period of 12 months: It is based on five per cent of the total authorized line of credit that ' the. applicant. had ' with the bank on January 1, 1982. Many of the applications for OFAAP are being received in good order. However, in, many, cases the physical information has been incomplete. Most banks .. have comprehensive credit application forms.. These,' if completed in detail by the farmer and/or his accountant, • will • provide the necessary information to assess the application and the viability of the farm business. These forms should include physical detail on crops; acres, yields projected and ,prices; number of head, prices and weights ;of feeder livestock; and similardetail on a breeding herd and milking herd. 0 1 Interest assistance applications have been coining in large numbers in the last month. Huron County is third in submissions among all Ontario counties: "Our County O.M.A.F. farm manage- ment team have kept relatively current with. requests except ' for applications that are • temporarily delayed because of the need for additional information or discussions," says Don Pullen, Huron • Agricultural - Representative. ` "It isn't true that this program is only for farms that will have trouble surviving," he. said. "Some well-managed farms may qual- ify. We encourage farmers to look into the eligibility requirements and make applica- tion through their bank."
