Baptismal service was held at the Presbyterian Church, Whitechurch on Easter Sun- day when Carrie Lynn. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ross Moffat was baptized. Last Sunday sacrament ser- vice was held at the same church.. Next Sunday, April 26 will be the farewell service for Rev. Bell who is retiring. A pot luck lunch will be held in the Whitechurch hall, fol- lowing the service for the congregation. Easter visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Young Ripley curlers finish season During the last week of March the playoffs for the Ripley Curling Club took place bringing ; a very active season to a close. Ladies' Team: Monday afteinoon draw, Mary Wal- den skip, Hilda Andrew. vice, Ruth Buchmeier. second, Myrtle Ann Watson lead. Wednesday afternoon draw, Sharon Courtney skip, Marion Robb vice, Nancy Regier second, Agnes Mur- ray lead. Tuesday night draw, El- lenHolroyd skip, Una Mac- Donald vice, Janice Hodgins second, Sandy MacLeod lead. Sharon Courtney's team edged Mary Walden's team to go on 'and play Ellen Holroyd's'. rink. Sharon's team won the President's trophy with Ellen and Mary runners up. Mixed Curling: Harry Scott skip, Marina Cameron vice, Ken Farrell second and Glenna Farrell lead, won first place trophies in mixed cur- ling. Dale ' Martin skip, Janice Rutherford vice, Murray Fer- guson second, Sue Ferguson lead, were .runners up. Men's Team: In the final game Funston's rink with Ron Funston skip, jack Scott vice, Bev Cliff second, Hugh Mason lead, edged Gord Roulston, Don ..Farrell vice, Murray Wilkins second, Don Gaunt lead for the Club Trophy. Gord's rink was run- ner up. Funston's rink went to the Grey Bruce playoffs Satur- day, April 10 at the Grey .Granite Curling Club in Owen Sound. The boys came home .. with the Grey Bruce trophy. Ashfield W.M.S. held their annual Family Night meeting in Ashfield Presby-. terian Church on April 15 at 8 p.m..' The call to worship and opening prayer were given by Mrs. Henry MacKenzie. Mrs. Gordon Finlayson, president, welcomed every- one to the meeting including guests from. Lucknow, Pine River, , Ripley and Trinity churches. The Easter worship from the Glad Tidings, Where are you in the Easter Drama, was given by : Mrs. Henry Mac- Kenzie, Mrs. Donald Simp- son, Mrs. Stuart MacLennan and Mrs. Warren Wylds taking part. 'sl Mrs. Henry MacKenzie in- troduced the guest speaker Bill Thompson, CKNX T.V. and. Radio' personality. Mr. Thompson spoke about the family in today's society, omparing itto a camp fire. If it is well tended, it burns, brightly but if neglected, it turns to ashes. It was a very interesting and inspiring message. The speaker was thanked by Mrs. Grant Far- rish. The choir favoured with two musical numbers which were much' enjoyed. Rev. Hugh Nugent closed the meeting with prayer and lunch and a social hour followed. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Springer visited lately with Mr. and Mrs. Dave .Springer of Whitechurch. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Young attended a wedding in Toronto last Saturday. Mrs. Young spent two days prev- ious visiting her parents; Mr. and Mrs. Art Ferguson ,of Newmarket. They returned home on Sunday. . Mr. and Mrs. Rick Jones, Chris and Sonia took their furniture to Thunder Bay last week. Mr. Jones returned for a week or so before starting work in Thunder Bay. Wesley Young of Lucknow visited his brother, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Young 'on Sun- day. [intended for last week] Mr. and. Mrs. Jim Young and Mr. and ' Mrs. Jim Springer attended a musical in Kitchener . on Saturday evening; April 3 and had a rough trip home, but they made it. Clifford Young is presently a patient in Wingham Hos- pital. We hope he will soon be feeling better. • Little Tod Thomas, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ian Thomas, had his tonsils removed Thursday .morning in Wing- ham Hospital. He wasable to return home on Friday. Rick Jones held a success- ful auction sale on Saturday, April 10, The weather was. good and a large crowd at- tended, Mrs. Lillian Jones, Chris and Sonia _were home for the sale and next week they plan to move their furniture to Thunder Bay, where Lillian is presently employed. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Young attended the annual dinner and meeting of the Huron. County Town and Country Homemakers held in the Pine Ridge Chalet in Chesley on Wednesday evening, Ap- ril 7.
