Ripley�rem�n a�swer call to Hurontownship house

Last Friday afternoon at
five to three the fire whistle
sounded in. Ripley. The call
was to. the Dan Kennedy
subdivision between the 10th
and 12th Concessions in the
north west corner of Huron
Township where a house was
on fire.
Doug Martyn drove the
Ripley pumper truck and.
Donnie Peterbaugh the
Ripley water tank truck out
to the fire. Kincardine water
tank truck was called to help ,
draw water. And as *ell the
hydro crew for the area was
called to take careof the
wires.
In ' addition to the above
drivers the following Ripley
firemen were out, Johnny
Dodds, Brian Pollock, Chief
Ivan: Cook, Jack Scott and
Roddie 'MacDonald George
McLean was . at the Ripley •
firehall making the
telephone galls as required.
The houseowned by a
man in Kitchener -Waterloo
and rented by two workmen
at the Bruce Nuclear Plant,
wascompletely destroyed
The'. trucks were back into
Ripley . by seven -in the
evening.

Enjoying sunshine
This isthe week of the
March break with schools on
holiday for the week. As a
result there has been a great
increase in the north south
travel last week with several
people bound for Florida.
Among those reported .going
down are Mr. and Mrs. Ray
Fuller, Mr. and Mrs. Bob
Johnston, Mrs. Verna
Finlayson, Mr. and Mrs:
Clarence Pollock, all of
Ripley, Charles Liddle of the
2nd. Concession in Huron
Township, Mr. and Mrs:
Carrick Coiling of ' Kin-
cardine, and Mr. and Mrs:
Murray Cameron of Toronto.
Others are leaving shortly
to get away from winter and
enjoy sunshine.
It, seems that with the
winter break in effect that
the number of hockey
tournaments being held has
increased. There . were
tournaments in Wingham,
Walkerton, Goderich and
other places.
Midgets win
On Monday evening of last
week, March 15, the Ripley
Midgets got their third
straight win . over the
Drayton team, The game
Trinity group discuss-
marriage enrichment

The Trinity Adult Fellow-
ship Group met at the home
of .Russel and Lillian Irvin on
Sunday evening. Mr. George
Cowan of Dungannon was
the guest speaker and he led
• • the group in a discussion and
talk of Marriage Enrichment.
Billy and .Billyanna. Camp-
bell of Galt, spent the week-
end with their grandmother,
Mrs. Winnie Campbell; Jack
Irwin of Goderich and his
brother, Frank Irwin of ,Ash-
field Township spent a day
visiting with their sister,
Mrs. Winnie Campbell.
Visitors for the week with
Doug and Dixie. Cameron,
Jason, Sara -Anne and Rach-
ael are Dixie's sister, Debbie
and Ron Ruston, Tawny and.
Todd of Belleville.
Frank and . Phyllis Scott
and their family, Michael,
Mark, Lisa and Eugene of
Colborne Township and Mr.
Bob Scott visited on Sunday
and had dinner with Marvin
and Hannie Scott, Martin;
Bill, Shirley and Donna.

Trinity 4-H:'

The fifth meeting of the
Trinity. Busy Bakers was held
on March 22 at the home of
leader Mary ' Lou Raynard.
Eight members answered
the: roll call, What is your'
favourite sweet yeast bread?
Do, you make it or buy it?
Mrs. Raynard discussed
butter and eggs. The -girls
discussed various subjects
including. the Gluten Net-
work, the Non Heating Meth-
od of , Baking Bread and
Controlling the, Browning of
Bread.
The girls participated in
the making of various fancy
rolls including the Spiral
Twist, Daisies, Bow Knots;
Kolackes, Irish Freckle
Bread and ' hot dog rolls.
The girls then judged the
100% whole wheat bread
they made for their home
assignment., Plans for the
party were discussed which
wall be meeting six.
Fancy, rolls and bread were
enjoyed by all the members
at the end of the meeting.
Kingsbridge 4-11 girls
make buttermilk -bread

The Kingsbridge 4-H Club
held their second meeting on
March 2, at 'the home of Mrs.
Delores Van Osch'.
The roll call, "awarm
place to put the dough while
rising", was answered by all
the members. The club name
chosen is the • Kingsbridge
Doughboys.
Members made buttermilk
bread and pan rolls as well as
Finished Health Bread.
Everyone then enjoyed
sampling the pan rolls and
the buttermilk bread.

for Drayton. Scoring for
Ripley were Terry Irwin 3,
Eric van der Gies 2, Kevin
Boyle 2, with singles by
Shawn Morrison and Sean
Johnson.
Guarding the Ripley net
was goalie Frank
MacLennan. On Monday
evening of the week before
Drayton, opened this series
of games here in Ripley. In
that game there was also the
same seven goal spread with
the final score Ripley 11 to
Drayton 4.
Scorers for Ripley were
Terry Irwin 4, Danny
MacDonald 2,, Eric van der
Glas 2, and singles by Paul
Keelan, Jeff Scott and Kevin
Boyle. Goalie was Frank
MacLennan.
Then on Wednesday night
the Ripley team \ went to
Drayton and the final score
was closer, Ripley 6 to
Drayton 4. Bobby Cameron
guarded the Ripley net for
the first two periods and
Frank. MacLennan took the
third period. TerryIrwin got
3 goals with singles: by Gary
Rutledge, Paul Keelan, and
Mike Nicholson. The three
wins advance . the Ripley
Midgets in the W.O.A.A.
competition.
Last Saturday, March 20,
John Kosmerly had his.
Ripley hardware and ap-
pliance store open again. It
had been closed since
Thursday March 4 while
John, his wife Elaine and
their son John Jr. visited
with his. parents Mr. and
Mrs. Louis Kosmerly at their
home in Edgewater, Florida.

herd of Bill and Nina Wyld of
the Sixth Concession west in
Huron Township was sold at
a .dispersal sale at the
Donald Walton Sale Arena at
Durham.
The Bruce County Crops
and Soils Association annual
spring competition was held
last. Wednesday in Formosa
John Ackert of Holyrood got
first for his exhibit in corn.
Larry Schmidt of Mildmay
got three firsts one for
barley, another for , corn
silage and one for" hay silage.

District Hospital where he
had been undergoing
treatment for a few days.
It was nice to see Ambrose.
Gamble upstreet•again'after
his recent illness and stay in
the hospital.
Last Sunday evening there
was a fall of fine -light snow
amounting to a half inch
layer. It was enough to make
the roads, slippery. And it
meant, an early start before
six in the° morning for Dave
Moore and the men at the
Huron . Township garage at
the end of Malcolm Street in
Ripley.' Sanding of the roads
and . especially the ' hills
leading to the homes down at
the lake..
Joe Hodgins and Mile
Pollock were hometo Ripley
for the weekend. Both are
taking apprentice courses at
Fanshawe College in Lon-
don.
