James Friel • Many people decorate their homes ' and the essential Christmas tree for the • holidays, but. Nancy Becker of Ross Street in Lucknow is one who attempts to bring some of the season's spirit in. a • more traditional manner. "I enjoydecorating my home for Christmas," she said, Even with the • preparations already undertaken, she still says they're. lnot as extensive as perhaps I would like." Of course, the preparations, in which the whole family of Chuck, Nancy, Melissa, Tim, Joy and Colin get involved, center, on the tree. And . getting a good tree is • a matter of con- nections. • "Niel Edgar, east of Whitechurch, is my supplier," she said, smiling at the word usage. "He reserves the largest tree ("And the fattest!" interjected youngest son Colin) every year. "That and the wreath are from Niel." Hung in the tree are Christmas balls of a type of porcelain or chinalsome- of which were purchased in Frankenmuth, Michigan, "the Christmas towe. Apparently, in Frankenmuth, a town "full of restored, quaint old buildings", Christmas is everyday, all year round. Interspersed throughout the branches family affair and satin birds and ribbons, "They're, new", small fans and the creations of the four children thilough the year. ' Liberally placed among the branches •is what Nancy feels is the key, to the tree. "The secret of a nice tree is lots of baby's breath" and the white branches do contrast effectively with the, green 4f the tree itself. Crowning •the conifer is another Becker tradition. Year after year, for • 19 Christmases, a small angel has topped off the tree. • ' • Pine boughs gracing the fire place and the garland hugging the contours of the railing of the staircase were from Dixie's - in Goderich, as well as an immense white poinsettia. "They came out well this year,- Nancy understated. Outside decorations are courtesy of the joint effort of Melissa and Tim and include a string of white lights in the bare tree out front and a garland of fir outlining the doorway to the home. Getting the tree and doing the decor- ating really start the Christmas excite- ment in the home. Seven-year-old Colin was found the morning after the tree was picked up, curled up underneath the branches with a blanket and pillow, dreaming undoubtedly, of the happi- ness of the season. • GLISE - Mr. and Mrs. George Guse, Wingham, are pie.n.Sed to announce the birth of their son, Barry Meredlth (reg, 7 lbs. 11 oz., at Wingham and District Hospital on Dec. 11, 1985.
