Gifts for needy donated at UCS meeting
Pine River'.UCW
The monthly meeting of the UCW of the
Pine River United 47hurcli met the evening
of Dec. 10 at the home of Doreen Stokes.
The president Ruth Farrell was in the
chair. This was Ruth's last meeting in her
term of office. There were 25 ladies '
present. The rollcall was to present a gift
for the needy, Bertha Scott sang a beautiful
solo "Mary's Little Boy Child".
The conveners for the meeting were
Janette Thompson, Sharon Courtney and
Bertha Scott. Janetti; Thompson. read the
Christmasstory from the Book of Luke.
Sharon Courtney read a number of Christ-
mas poem and Bertha Scott sang two
verses of It came upon, a midnight clear".
'Christmas hymns were sung by the ladies
throughout the meeting.
Ruth Farrell closed the meeting with
prayer and thanked the ladies for their help
through her term of office.
Grace was sung and. lunch served by the
lunch committee.

Elmer Culbert was in'Redford, Michigan
and area, whee he went to visit with his
family fora couple of days. ;/
Borden Culbert, brother. of Elmer
Culbert underwent surgery a w;eek ago and
is now improving very well.
Dorothy Finlayson visited on the week-
end in Teeswater with her son, daughter-
in-law and family, Bill and Judy Finlayson.
The community, would like to send its
%ongratulations to Mike Snobelen.of Huron
Township on being nominated for his
second term on the Board of Education in
Bruce County.
Elizabeth •Wilkins of Toronto, daughter
of Charles and Mayme Wilkins, is now at

home on the weekend with their .parents,
Wellington and Kae Webster. Ori' Satur-
day, Jim, Cecil and Kae Webster visited
with Norma Young in. Goderich.

her friend Shirley, were home on the
weekend with Rhetta MacLennan.
J Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Robb were dinner
i guests for a pre -Christmas getogether with
Mrs. Robb's family at the home of Mac and
Freda Scott in Belgrave. Also in attendance
was Leonard and Mary Eccles, John and

Lynda Wylds of London was home on the
weekendwith her parents Warren and
June Wylds.
On Saturday ' Barry and Betty Jones
entertained Betty's sister, brother-in-law
and their family, Paul and Shirley Hatch of
Barrie.
Max Riegling of Riegling Farm Mach-
inery at Lochalsh and his helper, Arnold
Dawson, had a ,mostenjoyable trip to
Bologna, Italy, recently. The'two had been
chosen as a compliment of the Italian Trade
Commission to spend a week in Bologna,
Italy' to attend ' a machinery show there.
Max has been selling a quantity of their
machinery here and it has now givenhim a
chance to see what they have to offer that
would be of interest to .people in the area.
They found the weather very much the
same as it was here at the time of their
stay.
'Betty Jones visited with Barry's mother,
Gertrude Jones in St. Marys recently and
also other relatives in . the area and with
•their daughter, Sherry in London.
Ashfield WMS
The Ashfield Women's Missionary Soci-
ety met at the home of Mrs. Rhoda
MacKenzie in Lucknow, on Dec. 12, for
their annual Christmas pot luck dinner.
Mrs. William Hayden was organist for the
service.
The program was in charge of Mrs.
Marjorie MacLean, who opened with a call
to worship and prayer. The members
followed the service ofworship as printed
in "The Glad Tidings". Mrs. Charles
Wilkins, Mrs. Warren . Wylds and Mrs.
Gordon Finlayson read the scripturepas-
sages. Mrs. Wylds read an article and
poem on "The Spirit of Christmas The
offering was received and dedicated by
Dorothy Finlayson. Marjorie MacLean
spoke on ``The Real Meaning of Christ_
mas".
Mrs: MacKenzie presented Mrs. Doro-
thy . Finlayson with Life Membership
Certificate in the WMS for her many years
of service in the group. .-; . .
Rollcall was answered by a Christmas
verse and an offering for the needy. A
poem entitled "The Tree" was read by
Marjorie MacLean, Minutes of the prev-
ious meeting were read and approved.
Mrs, Wylds gave the, treasurer's report:
and was happy to report that allocations
had been met and other reports were
given.
Mrs. Neil MacKenzie gave the nominat-
ing report Mrs. Hugh Nugent installed the
new. officers.
Mrs. Marjorie MacLean thankeeMrs.
MacKenzie for, her untiring efforts as
president for' the past three years and for ,
her many accomplishments. The meeting r
closed with .a Christmas hymn and prayer
by Marjorie MacLean.
