By James Friel
Councillor Ab Murray declined to put
himself up as a candidate for reeve when
asked to before the municipal election in
November, stating he didn't have enough
time to .do justice to the municipality and
run his business at the same time.
But he ended up agreeing to devote a
large amount of time in any case, taking up
responsibilities on four municipal commit-
, tees.
Murray will be on the hydro, arena, fire'
and sanitation committees.
Reeve Herb Clark will be on the roads
committee, the medical center representa-
tive and will be primarily responsible for
village finances. Thea other experienced
member of council, Councillor Eldon
Mann, is also on roads, and will be looking
after water and recreation.
Rookie councillor John MacLeod will be
the sole member of the property board and
will work with Murray on the arena board
and Mann on recreation. It was pointed out
that if MacLeod, who is also a carpenter,.
wished to do work for the village in his
business capacity, he could appoint one of
his employees to submit estimates for
tenders. Council felt that would deal with
any conflict of interest concerns.
George Anderson, the other newcomer,
will take on 'library commitee duties and
will work with Murray on both the hydro
and fire boards.
The committees are:
• roads Herb Clark, Eldon Mann
• water - Mann
• hydro - Ab Murray, George Anderson
• arena - Murray, John MacLeod
• recreation - MacLeod, Mann
• fire - Murray, Anderson
• property - MacLeod
• sanitation - Murray
• medical center - Clark
