The Lucknow Sentinel, 1985-12-18, Page 11Shootout commemorated
Tas a night to remember, and in
Lucknow 1 think,
With few, empty seats on either side of the
rink.
The linesmen were waiting for the teams to
come out,
They were anxious to get the game started,
no doubt,
The players were ready, the home team in
red, '
While visions of winning one danced in
their heads. '
And Claude with the water and Mac with
the sticks,
We went to our bench with .the first bag of
tricks.
Then out on the ice there arose such a clat-
ter,
Coach Dauphin jumped up to see what was
the matter:
When what to his, wondering eyes should
appear,
But Brad Humphrey scoring his fourth' of
the year.
With a shot from the corner, so deadly and
fast,
The Lancers they led from the first to the
fast.
More' faster than bullets, the rest of the
goal's came,.
And fans whistled and shouted and called
them by name.
First MacPherson and Clark! Then Phillips
and Humphrey!
Go Elliott! Go Keller! Go Mitchell and
Murray! •'
From the side of the net, from the topof
the slot,
Each goal was scored with ja blistering
shot! '
The Milverton shooters, they found our net
too, .
But six goals were just about seven too
few. .
For Ray was in net and he did do his best,
And now he deserved just a few minutes
rest.
Then coach Dauphingot' up, to his team
gave a shout,
And we went to our room as the' place
emptied out.
But they heard him exclaim as he close the
door tight, '
That hard work and hustle had paid off
tonight.
/Other games saw Greg Hamilton lead
the .Lancer attack with two goals against
Teeswater as the Lancers won 5 - 2 with
some good goal tending from Allan. Dyck.
Mildmay last Friday night Brad Humph- •
rey got two goals with singles going •to
Steve Simpson, Allan Eadie, Eugene
Johnston, Jim Murray and Larry MacPher-
son as the Lancers won 7 -' 5 for their third
win in a row. Ray Guay handled the chores
in net. Lancers next game is Dec; 22. night
with the Wingham Royals.

Time well spent on decorations
The Lucknow Junior Women's Institute
finished ,1985' on a busy. note. Commemor-
ating the Year of the Youth, the WI hosted
a Hallowe'en party for the 'youth of the
village and surrounding area on Oct. 25.
The time spent in decorating and preparing
of treats was 'well rewarded by the good
attendance and participation of the young
people. The haunted house was a big
attraction as well as the costume judging.
Winners were picked by three mysterious
judges and cash prizes were awarded in
various classes.
At the November meeting JWI members
enjoyed a pot luck dinner and had our
secret pal gift exchange. Those who had
not already guessed the identity of their
Secret Pal learned it at the meeting before/
the exchange of names for the coming
year. The November meeting is always a
special one because it is a dinner meeting
and the gift exchange helps get the group
in the, spirit of Christmas. '
On Dec. 10 members entertained the
seniors with a 'Christmas party at the
Anglican Parish Hall.'The program consist-
ed of Christmas carets, piano 'and vocal.
solos, a kazoo duet,- readings and our
comedy production entitled "The • Purnp-
kinville Christmas Concert". The program
was followed by a lunch. It was an enjoy-
able opportunity to' display "acting"
abilities and provide some entertainment
for the senior. citizens. Thanks go to those
of the Town and Country Club who
participated in the program and helped
make it a success.
On Dec. 14 the JWImet to. prepare
Christmas hampers for the needy families
in the area. The hampers include gifts for
the children, food items, and treats for the
family. Items are 'donated by members and
purchased by the club. The Community
and Social Services and the Health Unit
identify the need in the community and
distribute the hampers on behalf of the
group. 7
