The Lucknow Sentinel, 1985-12-11, Page 14/ • Page 14—Lucknow Sentinel; Wednesday, December 11, 1985 Peewees take 'tourney Consolation Trophy In a very spirited performance Lucrnow Peewees defeated Harriston 5 - 2 at the Lucknow Arena Dec. 6. In a warm-up game before the Southampton tournament, the Lucknow boys played with a lot of enthus- iasm. Both Harriston goals were of the unusual type and Paul Helm played a.good game in goal. All Lucknow goals were 'scored by the production line of Brad Murray, two goals, Rod Crich, two goals and Mike Vandervelde, one goal. Early Saturday morning Dec. 7, the Lucknow Peewees, still tired from the previous night, lost their first game in the Southampton tournament to Tiverton, 6- 2. Tiverton got a lead early in the game and. Lucknow never had the stamina to catch up. Rod Crich and Brad Murray scored the Lucknow goals. In 'what had to be the roughest game of the tournament, Lucknow battled South- ampton in their second game defeating the hosts 7 - 1. Once Southampton got behind Lucknow they resorted to, rough and some- times dirty play but Lucknow proved Once again they could handle the rough stuff. Mike Vandervelde had a hat trick •and received the second star trophy, with Brad Murray getting two goals and the first star/ trophy of the game. Rqd Crich got the other two goals. The win against Southampton put the • Lucknow Peewees against Tara for the Consolation Trophy. Lucknow dominated the play throughout the game, but the exceptional Tara goalie kept the score down with Lucknow winning 5 - 2. Once again Brad Murray scored two goals, with single goals going to. Rod Crich, Donnie Gammie and Justin Murray. • Lucknow, last year's tournament win- ners, had to settle for the Consolation Trophy, with Teeswater the tournament winner this year. Lucknow's next home game is Dec. 20 with the good -skating Peewees from Howick as their opponents. • • • • ........... ......... . • • •••::., 9, Bowling standings • Lucknow Mixed League The women's high single and high triple were both scored by Mary Phillips with 238 and 601. The men's high single went to Ron Elliott \with 230 while the high triple was taken by Steve Carvell with a score of 565. Games over 200 were bowled by quite a number ofpeople including Russel Swan, 222; Hugh. Team point standings: Gophers 821/2, Kangaroos .127, Squirrels 100, Chip-. munks 117, Cats 102, Tigers 1011/2. •-Khdoss Mixed Hannah Hartemink rolled high single for the ladies with a score of 215. Shirley Allen took the high triple with a score of 512. • For the men, Fraser MacKinnon had high single with 225 and he also had high triple with 554. Town and Country Bowling Ladies high single Olive Smith with a score of 192 and high double Gerda de Jong with 299. Ian Dougherty was high man with a score of 180 and a double of 297. Atom A's win four straight - , • The Lucknow Atom "As" beat Tees- • water in Lucknow with a score of 7 - 2. The scorers for this game will be/ put in at a later date.. On Dec. 3 Ayton visited tucknow, and went home with a loss. The score was 4 2 for Lucknow. Scoring in this game was Justin Murray with two 'goals. Chris Stev- enson assisting on both goals. Chris Stevenson scored two goals as well with Justin Murray and Rao Crich assisting. It was a very exciting hockey game. On Dec. 4,-Lucknow was bused to Elmira to meet the Woolwich Atom team and won • once more in a very exciting end to end • game of hockey. There was an unusual amount 9f body contact not called. The score Was 5 - 2 with Chris Stevenson getting the hat trick. Justin Murray assisted on -. one goal and, two were unassisted. Murray put one away with Rob Crich assisting. Clint Murray jammed one into the net in a flurry and Vince Stickfend assisted. On Dec: 6 the team returned to Mildmay • where they have had their only loss this year and got the game back with a score of 3 • Scoring in this game were Justin Murray with Rob Crich assisting, Chris • Stevenson unassisted, and Vince Sticklend with Clint Murray assisting. The team has won seven out of eight games played this • Year.
