The Lucknow Sentinel, 1985-12-11, Page 13Lucknow Sentinel, Wednesday, December 11, .1985—P Sunday School children prepare for Christmas pageant The Sunday School children have purchased a new filing cabinet to hold their supplies. They are also preparing for their Christmas pageant on Dec. 15 at 11 a.m. Theparish service will be followed by. a -luncheon. At the Holyrood Women's Institute Baz- aar on Dec. 7, three lucky draws were made during the afternoon. A quilt went to, Mrs. Florence Hodgins, Kingarf and two cakes were raffled off, one to Betty Anne; Murray and the other to Mrs. Alex Percy, both of Kinlough. Congratulations, ladies. [Intended for last week) On Dec. 15 there was a special service of Thanksgiving /at 5 p.m. followed by a delicious supper at the Anglican Church. Rev. Merelyn Letson was in charge of the service and it was the first Sunday .in, Advent the wreath was lighted by Karen Hedley and a lovely white tree got its first hanging after the children's story. During , the service two lovely Bibles were presented, one to ° the Lucknow youth group and one to Kinlough youth group, Sunday School. Mrs. Eric Thacker and Mrs. Ray Collins received these Bibles which the youth group gave in loving memory. of a, former member, the late Sherri Irwin, who had taken such an active part in youth work. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Irwin and their family, who had given such loying care, and devoted time to Sherri durink her short lifetime, were present. Also folks from the Lucknow and Ripley congregation were also there. The Youth, Group sang the anthem, "Sing a new son unto the Lord", accompanied by Ann Pritchard. Prayers of thanksgiving for the newly decorated sanctuary were said. The beautiful altar flowers were given by Delores Cross in memory of her brother and for dear ones who were with the congregation in spirit, but unable to be present. Thanks were given for the new church sign and all the fine workmanship it represents, To the ones who gave the new door handle and plate after the doors were refinished and, to Bob and Dale Haldenby for putting them on and thanks was given to all who helped in any way to make our church in readiness for this special service and to Mr. Arthur Haldenby who earlier this year gave a beautiful sanctuary light and two chancel lights in loving memory of his wife Lillian. Holyrood WI The Holyrood Women's Institute held their December meeting on Wednesday at. the Mayfair Restaurant', Lucknow when a O utofsdioP Out qftvorW Under25.P i most delicious turkey dinner with all of the trimmings was served to 16 members and one child at 1.30. The dining room looked very festive and all enjoyed a pleasant day. The roll call was a card and a gift, for a resident at Pinecrest Manor. Each member brought either a greeting, a contest, or a reading for the program with Mrs. Harold Smith director. Mrs. Charles Murray presided for the business. A thank you note was read and cheerio boxes will be made up for shut ins in the area. Mrs. James Murray and Mrs. Douglas McEwan will be the 4-H .leaders for the course on dairy products. The Sunshine Sister/ gift exchange took .place and O Canada closed the meeting. People Report Mrs. Jean Hodgins ,and Miss Norma' Coutts of Wingham visited on Thursday with Edna and May Boyle. Miss Ellen .:McBride of Mississauga .visited on Dec.2.with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hodgins: Sympathy is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Joe Ernest upon the death of his sister. Mrs. Frank Maulden and Keith were dinner guests with Mr. and Mrs. Francis Boyle. Much credit goes to the Holyrood. W.I. leaders, Mrs. Douglas McEwan and Mrs. Jim Murray and their helpers. / Sympathy is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Ellwood Elliott, Bruce and David upon the death of Wilma's mother, Mrs. Nellie. Chesbro of Kincardine. She was formerly of concession 8 and died after a lengthy illness and bereavement of her husband Walter a short time ago. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Stanley of Lucknow; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Stanley of St. Thomas and their daughter Laurie were dinner. guests. on Dec. 1 with Mr. and Mrs. Alex Percy. Mrs. Kevin Howey and Kristin returned home to Kitchener after a nice holiday here with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Hedley.
