A large crowd turned out to watch the
Santa Claus parade on Dec. 7 and so that
children could visit Santa. 'Pictures were
taken with him in the building next to the
Sentinel. Free skating was enjoyed after-
ward. •
The mild weather and the soft snow have
caused slippery conditions and many -Minor
accidents in the past week.

McNay on the birth of twin girls.

CGIT has 1985 vesper service
Lucknow CGIT held its 1985 Christmas
Vesper Service on' Sunday evening .in
Lucknow United Church. Faces of Joy was
the theme, reliving the Christmas story
through Mary, the' mother of Jesus, her
cousin Elizabeth, themother of John the
Baptist and Anna, an elderly prophet who
met Mary and Joseph when they brought
Jesus to be dedicated.
Brenda Gibson was the worship leader;
Heather Priestap and Debbie Atkinson
were narrators. Mary's story was done by
Colleen Conley, •Bonnie Henderson and
Meaghan Clarke. Denise Helm and Kim
Laidlaw did Elizabeth's story and Marlene
Martin told Anna's story.
The CGIT choir sang "The Lord God", a
song about Mary, .Elizabeth and Anna
especially written for this service. Brenda
Davies accompanied the singing and carols
on the organ.
Debbie Nicholson, Jodi Hackett, Jackie
Wilson, and Kristi Stanley ushered; and.
Jenny Cooper, Kristen Owen, Janine Helm
and Jackie Wilson took up the offering.
Vester Service offering is the major source
of income for the national CGIT Associa-
tion which ,serves groups all across
Canada. •
Julie Nicholson read the, prayer of com-
mitment for Mary, Margaret Keith for
Elizabeth and Sara Ritchie for Anna.
During the candlelighting, each girl and
leader recited a verse of Scripture which
was meaningful to her. Then the Light was
passed to each member of the congregation.
and, the girls recessed singing.
During the social time following the
service, CGIT's 70th birthday was cele-
brated With , the, singing of "Happy
Birthday" and a birthday cake decorated
by CGIT member Kim Laidlaw.
Dessert served by hostesses
The Christmas meeting of St. Helens
Women's Institute was held on Dec. 5. As
it was a dessert meeting, dessert was
seryed at the beginning by hostesses Luba
Strutton and Helen .Todd.
The meetingthen opened with the Ode
and Stewart Collect followed by-•rollcall to
be answered with a Christmas verse and a
stamped Christmas card for the secretary
to send to former members whoare
shut-ins. .
Minutes of•the last:meeting, including a
summary of the. 80th anniversary celebra-
tions, were
elebrations,.were read and the treasurer's report
given.
Letters of thanks ` for donations to
Wingham Centre for the Homebound and
Town and Country Homemakers were'
read. The membership in . Women Today
was received: If members wish to order any
pictures 'of the 80th anniversary they
should do so through Norma Raynard.
As the St. Helens Institute is in charge of
the St. Helen's branch of the Huron County
•
Library, Muriel Moffat. attended a'meeting
of the library;board and reported it as most
interesting and hoped that other members
would attend future meetings.
Card parties will be held again in
January, dates to be decided later. The
meeting continued with the topic prepared
by Norma Raynard. She read the Christ-
mas story from the Bible as written in the
second chapter of St;. Lukes gospel, from
which . she took the topic of ' love, the
greatest gift given to us by God in His son,
emphasizing <the true meaning of love: •
Norma also read two beautiful poems about •
the greatest gift. Members all sang six
Christmas songs, after which Helen Todd
read a poem "Santa's Coming An ex-
change of small Christmas gifts took place.
Appreciation was' shown to Elaine Er-
rington . for her Christmas decorations in
the hall. Special mention was made of the
• recent successes of the Rintoul girls with
theirbeef cattle and the Todds with their
sheep at the Royal Winter Fair.
