Andrew, Lee Cairncross and Paul Black
subscribed to their declaration of office and
were sworn in by Clerk Don Simpson at the
Dec. 3 meeting of council.
A resolution was passed authorizing
Allan Gibson and Donald M. Simpson to
sign all cheques, promisory notesand all
other documents on behalf of the township
of Ashfield.
Two tenders were received on the pur-
chase of a tractor with a front end loader.
The tender of G & E Sales & Service was
accepted at a price of $21,293.00 with the
trade of the old tractor and subject to Slie
approval of the Ministry of Transportation
and Communications (MTC).
A tile ,drain rating bylaw imposing
special rates on four properties was given
three readings and passed.
Art Clark of Maitland Engineering was
present and brought council .up-to-date on
the waste disposal site. Theplan of .devel-
opment and operation on the site at lot 10
con. 6 E.D. has been forwarded to the;
Ministry of, the Environment (MOE) for
final approval.
The results of tests of water samples
taken by Ian Wilson Associates Ltd. at the
site part lot 3 con. 13 W.D. showed some
contamination and indicated that a buffer
zone might be required.
In order to satisfy the ministry, council
instructed Clark to find out the cost to
obtain a certificate of approval, close the
site permanently or establish a transfer
station:
Herb Clark ,and Eldon Mann attended,
and informed council: that the village Of-
Lucknow has: taken an optionon three
properties in Ashfield, part of lot 1,2 con. 12
E.D. for establishing a sewage treatment
plant for the village of Lucknow.
Road accounts of $24,413.3S and general
accounts of $496,013:68 including the final
county and school board requisitions for
.1985 were approved for payment..

increases...people in the county can't
afford it," 1 said Reeve McBurney
Hay Reeve Lionel Wilder took a different
tact. He said he isn't opposed, to the salary
increases but the idea needs more discus-
sion.
It will probably be January before the
salaries are considered again as the
December meeting. is used for the naming
of• the warden and forming committees.
The present salaries of the department
heads are listed below followed by what the
proposal would bring their salaries to in
three. years: medical officer of health,
$57,512 to $70,694; Huronview administ-.
rator, $37,544 to $47,892; social services
administrator, $32,334 to $40,820; clerk-
treasurer administrator, . $51,974 to
$61,542; county engineer, $48,074. to
$57,642; deputy clerk -treasurer, $44,460 to
$53,.430; planning director, $45,188 to
$55,224; county librarian, $34,866, to
,$40,950; and museum director, $34,060. to
$38,298. .
