Last Tuesday November 12 was municipal
election day in Ontario. The polls were open
from 'eleven' in the morning to closing time
at eight in the evening. Ripley folks voted in
the Ripley Legion Hall and as usual they had
two polls.
Poll One was for those on the west .side
and 'Poll Two for the east side with Huron
Street or the 15th road the dividing line: In
charge 6f the west side were. Deputy Return-
ing Officer Mrs. Grace Carruthers.and.Poll
Clerk, ..Mrs. Dorothy Hillborn and for the
east side D.R.O. Mrs Marg Fuller. and Poll
Clerk Mrs. Elva Needham.
The first person to vote from the west -side
- Mrs. Frances Hooisma. In fact the first
three to vote were from the west side. Runn-
ing in Ripley were two ladies for reeve,
Dianne Heinisch and Donalda McLean with •.

a gang of men and a number of machines at

The success of the pro-life booth at the
Teeswater Fall Fair was encouraging for
the members. of Wingham. Voice for Life. A
number of visitors came to inquire about
pro-life issues •and •a, quilt was raffled off.
The quilt was won py' Mrs. Janet
Stierrenberg of Belgrave. '
At the November meeting of Voice for
Life the members deplored the media's
lack of concern for the pro-life cause. The
media sometimes' even seem to take a
pro -abortion stance. If this is so, perhaps

results given
Last Saturday evening, Nov. 1G the 1985
Royal Agricultural Winter Fair came to .an
end..for this year in the Coliseum building in
Toronto. This area had a good showing of
.entries in ' field crops, grain, cattle, and

Murray Gaunt, once a top winner in the 4-H
calf show there, gave excellent reports on
the fair from day to day.
Winners were from Kincardine,. Ripley,
Lucknow, Mildmay, and other places in'this
area.

Various local -pro-life groups are continu-

ing their picketing of the Morgentaler
clinic in Toronto; despite the hostility of
their opponents and in spite of prosecution.
In October, a Baptist minister, Rev. Fred
Vaughan and two Catholic priests, Father
Ted Colleton and Father Alphonse de Valk,
were arrested and charged with mischief
against private property, after they had
attempted to padlock the back -lane gate to
the •. clinic. All three clergymen .were
protesting the refusal of Attorney -General
Ian 'Scott to. close 'down the Morgentaler
clinic, which is unlawful underSection 251
of the Criminal Code.

Rantoul girls are big winners
Kim and Debbie Rintoul, , daughters of
Leroy and Lila Rintoul of St. Helens were
big winners at this year's Royal Winter
Fair. Kim had the Grand Champion steer
in the prestigious Queen's Guineas compe-
tition. This event was last won by a Huron
County 4-H club member in 1955 when the
winner was Murray Gaunt.
Debbie was also very successful in
showing a steer that,had won several local
competitions. She went on to win the ,,
championship inthe market livestock
Charolais class.
Pee Wees lose to Harriston
On •;Nov..14 the Lucknow. Pee . Wees
travelled to Harriston losing a hard fought
game 8 4 to a big, strong pee wee team.
Although' Harriston's players were bigger
than the Lucknow team, nevertheless the
Lucknow Pee Wees played strongly and
matched them in the physical part,'of the
game. Harriston scored- the first 2 goals
with Lucknow tying it up. After two periods
it was Harriston 6 - 2. Inthe third period
Lucknow matched Harriston with 2 goals.

, team played a lacklustre game against
Teeswater on Nome ice. As in the previous •
night, Lucknow got behind by 2 goals but a
pair of goals by Brad Murray tied it up: It
was all downhill from there with the score
at 8 - 2 for Teeswater at the end of the
second period. Early in the third period
Rod Crich scored for Lucknow and Tees -
water added one more to ,their total in the
last minute to finish the score at•9 - 3.
