Alvery Hayes
After discussing the matter with friends, .
Alvery Hayes .decided to run for council to
try to give the northern part of the town-
ship some representation.
"This is a'good recreational area and it
'brings in a lot of tax dollars," he said.
The general foreman of thefire depart-
ment at Douglas Point wasn't up on other,
issues but believes "you have to give the
people justice for their tax dollar''.
David Gibb
David Gibb is another veteran of Kinloss
Township council with seven years'
experience under his belt. "I just think I'd
like to finish what:I started," he said.
He believes that roads are a major
driority for the township, particularly "one
in the north end (that) needs a lot of work".
He thinksarena funding should wait or
come from a ' source other than the
taxpayers. "It's a every, poor time to go to
the taxpayer for money, everyone's having
problems. It's too ,bad ' they didn't . do
something about it before...",
George McBride
George McBride has been on council for
nine years.
He notes that "The arena can do with
some improvements, but Kinloss Township
is mostly farmers'. and the way it is,
farming....". •
"Grants are getting pretty skimpy," he
'added.
He also said that •while it isn't an. issue
concerning the whole township, the Silver
Lake area is worried about the present high
level of water. "Some wouldn't mind it a
little less full," he said.
Women contest Ripley chair
Donalda McLean
Donalda McLean, one of two women
running for the reeve's position in Ripley,
said she thinks ifs sewers are to,be put in
"they should do I the whole ' town".
The present council has proposed the
installation of a sewer system in the core of
Ripley, that will mean taxation of everyone
in the municipality. The up front non
connector fee has been set at $250.
She did acknowledge ' there was a
definite problem with sewage in the town
a'nd something should be done.
A resident of Ripley for 271/2 years, she
is president of the Women's Missionary
• Society evening group at Knox Presby-
terian Church, Ripley; is presently secret-
ary of. Ripley Women's Institute and has
been past president; for the second time is
president of her church. She has also been
president of the Hanover and District Solo
Parents.
Dianne Heinisch
Dianne Heinisch said it's about. time
Ripley had a sewer system and the core of
the village is the first step. Elected in 1982
for a term as councillor, she is now making
a bid for reeve. .
"I really enjoyed my three years 'on
council and was very fortunate' to sit on
county council and work on committees
with people from other municipalities,"
she said. • •
She also enjoyed working with municip-
alities in the south Bruce iakeshore. area to
come, up with a plan for economic survival.
She said taxing some people in the
'village who won't be connected .to • the
sewer system immediately is a fact of life
"any municipalitytrying to do this" faces.
She added that the bulk of the cost of
sewers will be payed by the people being
immediately connected. •'
"The reason the whole town is not
'developed is because of money. But we're
not ruling it out for the future," said said.
Coun. Heinisch calls herself an entrepre-
neur. She and her husband now run
Heinisch Service Centre Ltd. in Ripley. She
was raised in the .village, then was trained
as a nurse and lived in London for 18 years.
She and her family, returned to Ripley in
1979.
