Hiker suggests rail line trail..
TO
Dear .Editor,
I read articles recently. in the local papers
about the railway ties being removed from
the old rail line. As a non -driver, I always
hoped that rail service might someday be
restored to the area but the removal of the
ties quashed that idea.
As an avid hiker (I am,a member of the
Bruce Trail Association) and a , cross=
country skier, has there been any interest•
locally to retain the line as a. nature .trail
that could • be used for hiking, walking,
jogging, cycling,. skiing, etc.? I find when I
am visiting the area that this is something
that I miss very much. Benmiller, is a bit too
far when one doesn't drive. If there are
trails. in the Lucknow area, I would be
interested in knowing where they are
located.
The Bruce Trail Association has a 'Trail.
Users Code' which acknowledges a respect
for landowner's property, etc. Parts of the
Bruce Trail cross through private property
and the Associationconducts negotiations
with the landowners for this privilege.
I would be • interested in knowing
whether there is any support locally for this •
idea and if I can assist in any way.1 would
be pleased to do so. '
I am interested in the proposal for ..a
sports complex in Lucknow:Is the intent
that there would be only one (1) squash
court? blow would an out -of -towner visiting
for the weekend be able to access these
facilities? Would a year-roundmembership•
be required or would there be court fees on
a pay -as -you play basis?
Sincerely, •
-Elizabeth A. Wall.
