Society sponsors dairy day

Class 3 at the indoor display of the Ripley
Huron .Fall Fair in the Complex was neat
and attractive. It was Milk and Eggs as
Commercial Features sponsored jointly by
the Riplt y Agricultur'al Society and the On-
tario Ministry of Agriculture and Food. The
milk display was under the direction of
directorMrs. 'Bev ( Goodhue ) Fry and the
eggs display was arranged by director Bob
Scott.
Bev had on a display poster coloured pic-
tures of dairy herds on green pasture fields
and also listingof the first five placings for
each of the years 1982 to 1984 inclusive.
They were as follows — For 1982 first
Robert Osborne, second Dave Lowry, third
Peter Prehn, fourth Peter Vansickle, fifth
Perrin Lowry. For 1983 they were Brian
Reid, Peter Vansickle, Peter Prehn, Robert
Osborne, and Peter Walden. For 1984 it was
Gordon Fry, Robert Osobrne, Peter Prehn,
Ron Brooks, and Perrin LO7fivry.
Exhibitors have to be licensed with the
Ontario Milk Marketing Board. The 20 lbs.
for one exhibitor was delivered to the Ripley
arena by '10 a.m. on Friday, Sept, 27. The
milk was judged on flavour, bacteria, sedi-
ment, and acidity by an Ontario Depart-
ment grader on Friday. Then on Friday
evening exhibitors picked up their empty
pails at the milk display. The Kermit
Goodhue award goes -to the 1st place milk
entry,
The 1985 listing as received from, fair
secretary Don MaeTavish is as follows 1st
Joe Fry, 2nd Robert Osborne, 3rd Gordon,
Fry, 4th Dave Lowry, 5th Ron Brooks. These
five -entries were followed by fourteen more
and they were graded in order as follows by
the. judge - Murray Wilken, Peter Vansickle,
Peter Walden, Peter Prehn, Keith Van der
Hoek, Brian Reid, Ralph Mohr, Aurel and
Lynn Armstrong, Kitt Elnies, Jim Farrell,
and Bill Rutledge. Each gets the same addi-
tional prize of eight dollars. The committee
in charge of this Commercial Feature in
Milk was Beverly (Goodhue) Fry, Peter and
Shirley Walden. .
In charge of the Commercial Feature in
• Eggs was Bob Scott of Pine River. This at-
tractive and neat display had 12 entries on
exhibit. The large flats of white shelled eggs
•were placed • in this order. Robert Scott,
Janet Tranter, Lynn Reid, Bill Scott, and
Bev Fry. There 'were three flats of brown
shelled eggs, Gloria Ferrier, Robert Scott,

The thanksgiving meeting for all units of '
St. Andrews United Church Women
) in Ripley was held on Tuesday
evening Oct. i in the Sunday Schoolroom.
Mary MacDonald welcomed everyone on
• behalf of Unit 2. Deanna Scott read prayers
of thanksgiving. Christena Robertson read
from the Old Testament and Lois Irwin read
from the New Testament. Hymn 19 - -Now
thank we all our God" was sung with Shirley
Harris at the piano.
Irene Boyle had a meditation "Be 'free —
but bear our burdene. Dorothy Needham
and Isabelle Stanley gathered the offering
and it was dedicated by Evelyn Irwin.
President Jewel Stanley opened the
business with a poem and prayer. The
minutes of the last general meeting were
read by secretary Marie MacDonald and the
roll call and general business followed.
• Gladys Arnold announced a Bible Study
group in the Villa Lounge on Thursdays
from 10 to 11. Everyone welcome. The.
bazaar was announced for Sat.; Oct. 26.
Dorothy Needham introduced,the guest
speaker, Jean Bennett, who old of a
mutuality building experience in Central
America. She showed slides of deplorable
living conditions in Central America and
around Mexico City.

Donalda Gossell was transferred from
Kincardine to Walkerton last Wednesday;
Oct. 2. Donalda is now a patient in Unit On
• of the Chronic Care Division of the County of
Bruce General Hospital.
Gail MacIver and Orland Treves from
Fort MacMurray, Alberta, spent a week in
Ripley with Gail's grandmother, Mrs. Mar-
tha MacIver. •
This Monday morning we were shocked to‘
learn of the sudden passing of Ken Harkness
of Bervie.
• Mary (Donnie) MacDonald was the guest
of honour at Margaret Gemmell's home
when the Ripley Women's Institute
presented her with a -Women's Institute
spoon at their morning coffee meeting on
• Friday, Oct. 4. Peg Chappell made the
• presentation and read a poem which,,she
composed "We miss you" recalling the ex-
