"LOGO" CONTEST
The 'Locknow Agricultural Society is conducting a "Logo" contest this month.
• This "Logo" will be used on rosettes for the Fall Fair and stationery etc,
This contest is open to any resident of West Wawanosh, Ashfield, Kinloss and the
village of Lucknow.
• The Logo should be done on 81/2 x 11 paper.
rest prize is $20.00 in cash and a plaque donated by Nother's Trophies.

is speaker at WI meeting
The Echication and Cultural Activities
meeting of the Holyrood ,Women's
Insti-
tute was held on Thursday evening at the
home, of Mrs. Ellwood Elliott. Education
today was the topic and the guest speaker
was the principal of the KinlosS Central •
School Mrs. Audrey MacDonald.
She outlined the present school sYsterni
beginning with the elementary grades and
explained the new things "that are being
introduced such as computers and special
classes, • personal attention for some
students, and guidelines in health, langu.7
age and music. She noted that grades 4 and
5 French is taught, and films are also used.
She explained each one of the text books .
now in use. In the schools there are hearing
tests and a dental program, speech
correction and visits from a public health
nurse. This was a most informative talk
and was much enjoyed by all pre,sent.
There was, a question and answer period.
Mrs. Charles Murray introduced, Mrs.
_MacDonald and Mrs. Weir Eckenswiller
presented her with a gift. • •
The president, :Mrs, Charles Murray
welcomed all. There were 1.6 present and
all answered tbe roll call with "What can
we learn from teenagers. As this is the year
of the youth. Mrs. William MacPherson
read the minutes, financial statement and
amunuriicationewhich included an invita-
• tion to the Lucknow Institute meeting on
Oct. 8. .
Mrs. Frank Maulden was given the gift
of a ticket to the Don M. essers Show. There
will be a Remembrance Service in.
Holyrood on Nov. 11.
• Mrs. Lloyd Johnston was in charge of the,
• program and Mrs. Frank Maulden gave
two•readingS. Contests were conducted by
May Boyle on old sayings and by Agnes
• Hodgins on apples.
• Mrs. • Lloyd Johnston's game was
guessing the number of jelly beans in the
jar. Mrs. Frank Maulden guessed the right
nurnber. Happy • Birthday and Happy
Anniversary were sung. to those having
birthdays or an anniversary in October.
Mrs. William MacPherson gave the
courtesies. 0 Canada and Grace were sung
and a delicious lunch was served by the
hostess.•'

• Mr. and Mrs. Walter Breckles returned
home after holidaying at the Bay of Quinte,
Prince Edward County.•
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Allen and Shane of
-Camlaehie called on Edna and May Boyle.
Word was received here on Monday
evening of the sudden death of Preston
Haldenby at North York General Hospital.
He was the younger son of the late Mr. and
Mrs. Sam Haldenby who kept store here
before the Mclean family. His. brother ,
Lorne was born here and they both return-
ed to • visit relatives and friends here
through th eyears. Heartfelt sympathy is
extended to his wife Geraldine and their
family and to his brother, Lome.

Toronto visited with Mr. and Mrs. Fred
Page and Mr. and Mrs. 'Andrew Page• .
Mrs. Don Christensen and Janine of

on Oct..2. Mrs: Morgan Henderson opened
the meeting with a verse oh "Thanks".
.During the meeting, a duet by Mr. and
Mrs. Austin. three and a piano solo by MrS..,
Bert Moffat were much enjoyed. A timely
reading by Mrs. Jim Aitchison brought to
mind. the beautiful fall colors; '.
Mrs. Jim Little read the scripture. and
Mrs. Allison Ramsay had the meditation.
