Concerns about non -user fees • from page 1 Bradley was also concerned about the price non-users would have to pay to help fund the system. Councillor Herb Clark later said that the last proposak, for a system, a smaller one, had an estimate for a. one time cost for non-users of $200. This larger project would cost more. Clyde Street resident Jim Wilson agreed with Bradley's contention the whole village should have sewers, as did most of the ratepayers present, and added that .with inflation it would be more cost effectiye to finish the municipality , X11 at once. Nothing gets cheaper," he said. "W a have to get more people out," said Councillor Ab Murray. "If you want to get the whole town done, as the board (council) does, then we need more people." One ratepayer suggested a' referendum on the matter but Murray nixed that idea. "A vote won'tdo it, you've gotta put pressure, on them (MOE). You're doing your bit," he4 said of the people present, "but nobody else is." . Burns also stated that a vote. wouldn't make. much difference to the ministry. "•You have to al -folk -heed; you`bave to talk the province of Ontario- into paying." Edward Brown said as much of the , village should be done at this time to avoid inflation. He noted the proposed spur centering on Clyde Street and peripheral 'areas to the main system proposal= should be added at this time, despite Steve Burns' ' - statement that it -would cost about $125,000. . "In a project of this size, $125,.000 is peanuts," said the Place Street .resident. He noted after the meeting that the municipality would be liable for 16 per cent of the $125,000 addition. . Burns pointed out that with the smaller, system, people in outlying areas with the room to maintain . a -good .:septic system Might want to go that •route rather than be forced to' pay -hook up,and operational fees for the sewer system. He did say though, that if council approved that slightly larger area, he. could ' "probably sell it to 'the ministry. THIS WEEK'S SPECIAL... All Sharp Microwave Ovens.
