Bervie barn fire Friday
Last Friday afternoon Aug. 23 , fire
.destroyed a large barn and itscontents in
Bervie. The cause was said to. be two
youngsters playing with matches who told
their folks right away. Also a Hanover truck
• driver passing along Highway 9 reported the
•
outbreak.
Kincardine -Fire Department was called
and shortly after their arrival they called
the Tiverton and. Ripley Fire Departments
for help in hauling water to the fire. They
also had a pump set up in the nearby river
with a line of hose. But the heat from the
burning baled -hay was too great to get the
temperature cooled down. Also destroyed in
the fire was a car stored in the barn.
The barn belonged to Vern Hodgins but it
was not the barn on his home farm just east
of Bervie. Two firemen were with the Tiver-
ton water truck and three firemen with the
Ripley water truck. They were Don Peter-
baugh, Rod MacDonald and Doug Martyn.
Two more barns lost
Over last night, Sunday evening to early
Monday morning there were two more
barns destroyed by fire in the area. Early
Sunday evening lightning was the cause of
the fire - at Lorne Hackett's farm.

number of pigs. The Lucknow Fire Depart-
ment.answered the call. Through the night -
Monday morning the barn on the farm of
John Currie west •of Wingham was

cause. Pigs, thousandsof bales of hay and
