Visitors from Calgary
Mr.. and Mrs. Art Pollock of Keswick,
and 'Mrs. Leola Anderson of Ridgetown,
spent a few days a week ago with Mr. and
Mrs. Bill Graham; also visiting the same
home were Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln Wheeler,
Frank and Joan; of Calgary, Alberta.
Sympathy to the Sam Matthew family
in the passing of Rick Matthew.
, Sympathy also to Ross and Beatty Irwin
and family in the passing. of Sherri Dawn,
who passed away August 18, after a
lengthy illness.
Visiting with Tony and Geraldine. Schlos-
ser for a couple of days were granddaught-,
ers Sherry and Kelly Good of Goderich.
They also visited with Myra Walden of
Ripley on Sunday. Visiting the same home
on Sunday were Veronica and Don Fraser
and family, Bob Purves, Brenda Lippert
and Claire,Steffler; Ed Lippert, Ann Simp-
son and Pat and Ernie Good.

Congratulations to Bonnie (Clarke) and
Edward Davidson, . who were married on
Saturday at the home of Bonnie's'parents.
Bien and August Lemoine and Ella 'and
Alex Hackett spent a few days in Ottawa
with Barry and Mary Lemoine:
Jlien' and August Lemoine attended the
wedding of their son, Brent and Joyce Ann
Fablaber at Petawawa. Others attending
on August 24 were Anna Mae and Vern
Hunter, Ella and Alex Hackett, Bill and
Mae Hunter and Violet and Jim -Arnold.
OPSTF delegates gather
On Aug. 12, over 200 delegates of the On-
tario Public School Teachers' Federation
gathered in Toronto for their annual general
assembly. Debating almost 300 resolutions,
the federation took steps to assist teachers
// prepare for the implementation of computer
programs, values education and French im-
mersion. A task force was also appointed to
develop an intensive teacher renewal pro-
gram.
President Mary Hill, re-elected for her se-
cond term, urged' teachers to "adopt an
agenda for excellence in your classrooms,
and promote that excellence publicly." She'
called for,an open door to social agencies in

- the schools, stating that teachers cannot be
expected to assume social worker roles in
addition to their educational duties. •
Mrs. /Fill called. the Ministry of Educa-•
tion's gapin per capita grants for elemen-
tary and secondary ,-students "unaccep-
table.''
"The public," she stated, "must be made
aware that a six year old. is every bit as im-
portant as. a 16 year old. Educators, as
citizens must be prepared to work hard to
remedy this tragedy: •
