Dance for Stewart reunion
Family and friends pined Isabel Eng-
land, her sister and brother;to help
celebrate the Stewart reunion on August 3,
starting with a dance in the Legion Hall.
On August 4, a lot of activities took place
with a ball game at the ball park and
ending with sandwiches and dessert being
served at 5 p.m. at the Legion Hall.
Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Ezra
Stanley. They celebrated their 50th wed-
ding anniversary on August 17, receiving
guests at an Open House at the Anglican
Parish Hall. -
Visiting with Les and Vera Purvis were
Vera's sister, Hughena Brown and her
daughter, Connie Brown Q.C. of Toronto;
as well as' Hughena's granddaughter,
Craig Nuetley of London.. Also visiting the
same home during the week for a couple of
days was Jim Brown of London.
Better health to Alice Clark whoi was a
patient in the Wingham Hospital; also to
Muriel Ritchie, a patient in ' .London
Hospital. Both have heart problems and
both have returned home.
A number of homes have been sold in
Lucknow the past couple of weeks. George
Beaton has sold his home to Anne and Ray
Guay and he held an auction sale on
August 17. He had a good turn out and it
was a wonderful day.
Carroll • McKim has sold her home and
had a garage sale on August 17. Also Don.
McMurray has sold his home on Stauffer
Street, the former Lloyd. McNall home,
where Shirley Kennedy and family live,!:
The storm that hit the area about ten
thirty August 18, caused quite a bit of
damage on Stauffer Street. Lightning
struck the home; of Al. Wraigt, causing
flames to reach up over the house. The

firemen had quite a time getting it out as it
got into the insulation, and kept flaring up
after they thought it was out. It also hit the
aerials of Kenny Johnston on the Bill
Crump home, as well as Shirley Kennedy's
and Grant Rumble's. '
Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Lome
Schinbein, the former Ettabelle MacDon-
ald. They were married on August 17 in the
Presbyterian Church, Lucknow. Also to
Mr. and Mrs. Colin Snyder (Heather
Blake), married in Dungannon.
Marie Haldenby, Carol MacDowel, Rita
Weber and Geraldine Schlosser spent
Sunday evening in Sarnia, motoring to,
Windsor on Monday morning to attend the
Tupperware convention. They returned
home Monday evening.
Visitors with Catherine and Alex Andrew
this 'month were Donald and Dianne
Andrew, Jennifer, .Janie, Carmen and
Justin of Olds, Alberta; Peter Huston of
Red. Deer, Alberta; Dick and Mary Lou
Richards and Colleen of North Gower; Jean
Murray of .Toronto and George Richards of
Dallas, Texas.
Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Houston, daugh-
ters Dana and Alisori returned on August
16 to Fredericton, New Brunswick 'after
summer vacation . with relatives at Ripley
and Lucknow.
Mrs. Reta Clark, Owen Sound, visited
last week with her cousin, Elsie Houston,
on Willoughby Street.
Grandchildren visit for week
Visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Robb
for a week's holiday were three of their
grandchildren, Merideth, Darryl and Di-
anne McCutcheon, children of Edwin and
Janice McCutcheon of Lions Head. ,
Visitors on August 14 at. the Webster
home were Wellington's nephew and his
wife, Bill and Adel MacLennan of Ripley
and Wellington's sisters, W innifred Gam-
mie of Lucknow and Myrtle Fells of Whit-
by.
Visiting for a few days with Finlay and
Margie MacDonald were Cathy Robson
and her two children Phaedrea and Ryan of
Grosse Point, Michigan and Bob, Mary and
Bethany of Chicago, Illinois:

MacLennan, has returned to Sudbury with
,Dick Evans, after having spent a month at
home with her mother.
Visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Art Matthew -
man for. .their holidays are their daughter;
son-in=law and grandsons, Terry, Margo,
•Jamey and Beau Pettis of Sudbury.

Conservation drill available.

Association, Soil and Water Conservation
District will have a conservation drill
available free of charge to 'co-operators this
fall for the planting ofwinter wheat. The
drill is one of the pieces of conservation
equipment . available to area farmers
interested in developing. ' conservation
tillage productionpackages on their farms.
The ten foot wide conservation drill was
purchased from the .Best Manufacturing.
Company: and can be used in no -till,
minimum tillage and ridged fields. The
'double disc openers are notched to cut crop
residues, and are set seven and one-half
inches apart. The height of each disc
opener is also adjustable for planting in a
ridged field. •.•
The Best drill is equipped with ACRA-
plant units (with a firming shoe between
the disc openers),• which forms a smooth,
firm seedbed. Each shoe runs • slightly
lower than the . disc openers to leave a
narrow trench for better seed to soil
contact.
Press wheels. firm soil around the seed
and act as gauge wheels to regulate
seeding depth.

WEARERS
The drill is available to farmers this fall
to plant up to five acre tillage trials of 1
winter wheat on, differing soil types and
areas throughout the county.
These trials will compare the response of
differe varieties to differing soil condi-
tionsesidues, fertility,' weed and insect
control in no -till, minimum tillage or ridge
tillage . conditions. '
Technical assistance provided to � --
operators includes evaluation of the site
before planting, transportation of equip-
ment to the site, (farmers must provide
their own tractor and driver), assistance at
planting time, monitoring of the trails
throughout the growing season for weeds,
insects, nutrient deficiences and the
recording of yields and moisture at
harvest.
Information collected from the trials will
provide data useful in . developing the
production packages required for conser-
vation cropping to be effective under area
conditions.
