Lochalsh welcornes rain
• The community was so happy to see the
nice rain we had for a couple of days, and •
how nice it was that the weather had been
just. so perfect for the. big weekend in
Ripley. It may have put a damper on some
of the 'events 'en Sunday evening, but I am
sure the spirits were not. There was • so
many who said, "Well done Ripley, let's /
do it again 'real .Aoon. ".
Sunday visitors with Charles, Mayme,
Kenneth and Elizabeth Wilkins were
Mayme's sister-in-law, Lorene Irwin and
.Verne Reid of. Toronto and Bill, Joanne,
Stacey and Ian Wilkins of Ashfield Town-
ship were Sunday dinner guests.
Bill Wilkins now has a very sore left
hand. On Saturday he had the misfortune
to have the tops of,two fingers taken off at
the first knuckle in the cori ibine. Sorry to
hear of your injury Bill. Get better real
soon..•
• Finlay MacDonald had his steam engine
in 13ipley"for the big weekend and with the
help of his son, George, they had it in the
parade on Saturday..
The MacDonald connection were in
Ripley Satuirday morning, watched the
mammoth parade Saturday afternoon and
later returned to "The Cedars" for their
annual reunion. •
Dick Evans of Sudbury came down for a
few days visit with Rhetta and Marion
MacLennan. Other visitors'with the Mac-
Lennans Wert Bruce and Louise Millar of
Palmerston, their. son Steven 'and. his girl
friend.
Friends and family, who had been
visiting with 'Dorothy were Carol
la on her husband John Balch,
Finlayson, and
their son Alexander. Also visiting • were
Ken Finlayson of Toronto;. Paul and Jane
Einberlin of Toronto, .Rod, Jeannie, Lorie
and Lisa Finlayson of Sarnia, Barbara
• Rogerson and sons Charles and Andrew of
Toronto,' Mr. and Mrs. John Finlayson of
Arizona and Mr. and Mrs.. Fred Morgan, of
Brampton.
Visiting on the weekend with Barry and
Betty Jones were Gordon and Pat Jones of
Thorndale and Kristen Matthews of Thorn -
dale is also spending a week with the Jones
family.
W eekend visitors with Elmer and Edna
Culbert were Bordon and Mabel Culbert,
their son James, his girlfriend Laurie and
her ' brother, Chris Dunn of Detroit,
Michigan.
The MacDonald Reunion
The fifty-sixth MacDonald reunion .was
held August 3, 1985 at MacDonald Cedar
Grove on the adjoining farms of George
and Dave MacDonald.
• Everyone enjoyed the games and races
conducted by Clete Dalton, Donald Simp-
son Jr. and Art and Jackie ' Simpson.
Andrea MacDonald gave out the prizes to
the winners. The results were: three years
and under boys and girls, Leah Johnson;
four years.and under boys and girls, Sarah
Kage; five and six,years, John S. Dalton;
.seven and eight years, Adel Andrew; nine
and 10 years; Andrea Esteves arid 11 and
12 years, Peter Lyle. The three legged
raced results:. six years and under, J. S.
Dalton and Nathan Ferguson; seven and
eight: years, r'•hristine Kaye and' Glen,
Ferguson; nined 10 years, Jason
Meriam and Jami Andrew;' 11 and .12
years; Jennifer and Mark Andrew; open,
Art and Jackie Simpson. The results of the.
sack races: six years and under, J. S.
Dalton; seven and eight ye.ayts, -Aaron
Johnston; nine and 10 years,. Andrea
Esteves; 11 ' and 12 years, Jennifer
Andrew. The wheel barrow race winners
were: six years and under, J. S. Dalton and
Nathan Ferguson; eight and • fline years,
Jason Meriam and. Connie Andrew; open
adult, Allan and lnda Andrew.
The ball throw for four years old and
under was won by Jessie Cook. ,The games
ended with a tug-of-war between ' the
Agnews and the Simpsons. The agnrews
were cramps.
A beautiful skirl of the bag pipes. was
heard in the afternoon from piper Finlay
MacLennan.
President David Agnew welcomed ev-
eryone.'and Jessie Johnston led inprayer
and a moment's silence for those who had
passed away. They were Elizabeth Rose
Stothers and Frances R. MacDonald._
A bountiful lunch was organized by
Mabel MacDonald and Jean West on the
hay wagon. As usual everything was.
delicious: •
A short business meeting was conducted
with the executive remaining the same:
president, Dave Agnew; vice president,
Alex Simpson; secretary, Marion mer-
iam and treasurer, Dave MacDonald.
Sadie Blue and Alex Andrew were
honoured for being the oldest lady and
man present. Mr, and Mrs. Donald
Andrew and family from Alberta attended
from the farthest point. The youngest clan
meinber was lolly Andrew and the most
recent newlyweds were Mr. and Mrs. Jeff
Senerey of Florida.
A pleasant afternoon and evening ended
with the whole group singing, Auld Lang.
