This year, as usual, there were many
unique crafts that .were on display at the
Festival.. •'
Raynard Ackert from"Luelmow displayed
his rock collection which. he has been
accumulating all his life. He says he has
gained most of . the • beautiful stones
through trading with other collectors . who
have access to mines.
In addition . to an interesting. florescent
• rock collection, he had all types.of jewellery
made out of the stones. One of the larger
stones, Desert Rose stone, was , used to
make a pair of„book ends.
Another exhibitor, Debbie Lore from.
Listowel, showed some of the very
popular dresses for. Cabbage ,Patch Kids..
She said she has been making them from
patterns for the past year for tier daughter
and it expanded into. a hobby.
One of, the more popular items for
children has been the Care Bears. Two
weeks prior .to the show,, Ruth Ann Steffan
from W ingham made a number of Care
Bears along with their pais Lottsa Heart
Elephant, Brave Heart' Lion and Playful
Heart Monkey. . .
Her specialty, however, Was • the. Teddy
Bear ' sleeping bags on display at .the
festival, She says' she modified a pattern to
include . a more durablecloth material
rather . than the satin that the pattern
originally called for.
June Hintz of Fordwich .had the unique
hobby of making glassware.. Thehobby
which she has been involved in for thelast
three years calls for a special 'technique-
' called glass sagging,' Using this technique,
the glassware is cut from a clear or stained
sheet of glass. The glass, painted withgold.
or platinum, is then painted with liquid
glass and fired bra ldln', The glass sags into
the shape of the mold which makes for
uniquely designed glassware.
