THE RIPLEY LEGION Hall hosts, service
club meetings and special .get-togethers in
Ripley and also is the present site for the
village library. The Hall will host two lun-
ches during the Ripley -Huron Township
reunion.
Using the telephone in 1928
Making a telephone call 57 years ago was
a little more regulated than nowadays as
you can tell by the rules listed in the Official
Directory of __the iiuron •and 'Kinloss
Municipal Telephone System, dated
January 1928.
RULES
1 -Do not use the Telephone during a
Thunderstorm.
2 -Do not allow children to tamper with the
instrument or the wires. Any repairs occa-
/ signed in thisway must be paid for by the
subscriber.
3 -Subscribers are requested to report any•
defects in their Telephones. promptly to
"Central."
4 -Talk no longer than three minutes to one
'subscriber, as others may be waiting for the
line.
5 -Always take down the receiver and/listen
if the line is in use before you ring any other.

pleasant to have someone continually ring-
ing while.you are talking.
6 -Never, . under any circumstances, take
down the receiver and listen to the conver-
sation of others. If you, take down the
receiver; ask Is. Line Busy?" 1f the answer
is "Yes," at once hang up the receiver and
wait till they are through. Remember there
is a penalty if you don't.do so.
7 -All ordinary conversation should cease for
business messages, or when Central wants
the line.
11. -The Telephone is for the .,use of
subscribers. Non -subscribers using it must
pay 10 cents for each call. This fee is charg-
ed against the subscriber; whose, phone is
used, and will be collected by Central. Upon
refusal to pay, the subscriber's service will
be discontinued until payment is made.
9 -When calling, give the . number of the
subscriber's line and the number ofihis ring,
instead of his name.
10 -No abusive; profane• or obscene language
shall be permitted to pass over the line. Any
person offending in this respect shall be fin-
ed not less than One Dollar for each offence,
and shall be deprived of the use of his line
until such fine is paid.
IMPORTANT -Do not place anyihing on. top
of the Telephone; to do so may put.the whole
line out of order.
