Twolan assisted on seven of the eight Ripley
goals while second -year forward Jeff Gam-
ble scored three times. Cook and Twolan
were members -of the bantam team which
'finished, as runners-up to Bobcaygeon last
season.
Thornton opened the scoring just over two
minutes into the opening frame, Mark Kerr
beating Ripley netminder Matt MacLeod.
Cook evened the score at 3:40, Twolan and
MacLeod drawing assists. Jeff Godfrey and
Twolan set up Cook for his second goal at
8;06. and Gamble converted Twolan's feed at
9:24 to give the visitors a 3-1 advantage after
15 minutes.
Gamble and Twolan clicked again at 4:19
of the middle frame for a•shorthanded tally,
followed by, Cook's gamewinner at 7:03,
Gamble and Doug Hawrylyshyn assisting.
Cliff Amstey reduced the deficit to 5-2 16
seconds later before Gamble completed his
hat trick at 11:45, Twolan and Stephen Fry
engineering the goal. Mark Bruin'ng scored
Thornton's third goal in ,the final two
tninutes of the period. .
Ripley added some insurance in the final
frame, Stephen Keelan scoring twice while
Colin Hatch replied for Thornton. MacLeod
had a sthady game in goal for the winners,
helped by. defenseman Godfrey, Alec Boyd,
Donald Martyn; Fry and Dennis German.
The champs returned home after mid-
night where they were taken on the
ceremonial fire truck ride through the
village. 'Ripley defeated Tiverton, Brussels
and Wellington to reach the final series.
Other members of the 1984-85 Ontario and
WOAA championship club are Robert
Drzazga, Jeff Wilken, Rob Brooks, trainer
Todd .Walden and. manager John
Hawrylyshyn. Wilken played goal in
Thursday night's win, picking up an assist
on Cook's goal while both Brooks and
Drzazga performed well in a 'checking role
throughout the Thornton series.
Saturday's •victory capped the, midget
careers (since the story appeared in. The
News, the Canadian Amateur. Hockey
Association has recommended that the age
groups be raised one year) of Gamble,
Hawrylyshyn, Boyd, Brooks and German,
leaving Ripley with a solid nucleus for next
season.
