New businesses in town
The business section of Ripley has
undergone many changes since Ripley's last

In 1975 "A History of Huron and its hub -
Ripley" traced --the education system in
Huron Township from the one -room school
house to the schools' operating in Ripley at
the time of the 1975 Ripley Reunion: '• :
A significant change . has , taken place in
the Ripley schools since them. Two years
ago Ripley District School which housed
grades seven to 13 was closed to high school
students due to a clecreasiirg enrollment
over the years., The ,closing of the school
drew' much debate from members of the
communitybefore the final decision was
made. . •
The decline in enrollment lad- been due to
many high school students' decisions to at-
tend Kincardine and Walkerton high schools
which offered a broader range of courses
not offered at Ripley.
In 1983, 110 high school students attended
Ripley District. Now they all attend school
in Kincardine or Walkerton.
In September of 1983 the school's doors
were re -opened - this time to elementary
students. Ripley District School now houses
161' grade 5 to 8 students who moved up from
the Ripley -Huron Central School, helping to
solve the problem of overcrowding in the
Public school. Ripley -Huron Central school
• has 212 pupils ( from kindergarten to grade
4) enrolled. .
