Daycare centre opening
With more and mom
working mothers,
suitable day Care for their children is BUS NESS
looked upon as a necessity. To meet this
need, Muth Anne Ritchie of Luckmow is
opening a day care centre in September.
Mrs. Ritchie, a graduate of the. Early
Childhood Education program at Iambton
College, who holds a toddler care and guid-
ance certificate, received approval in July
from the Ministry of Social and Community
Services to open the centre.
Currently, she's caring for three pre-
schoolers through the summer months but
plans to take in a total 'of 12 children in
September.
For the past three years, Mrs.. Ritchie
,, says she's been operating with a private
day care license in her W olsley Street
home which permits her to have up to five
children under the care of one/ adult.
She stresses that the day. care service is
not simply'a baby sitting job, but rather it
will offer the children a good learning
environment.
"The kids Will get stimulation ;from the
' staff and . the other children and /the
program that is provided," she said.
The day care centre will be available for
children between the ages of 18. months to
five: years old. The morning session will
consist of a free play period in ,which
children can do puzzles and look at books •
as well as working in the creative area and
the housekeeping centre. After a morning
,;snack, the children will participate in a fun
circle with a different theme every.day.
Games,• songs and stories Will be planned
around the theme.
A hot lunch and a nap tine will be,
provided in the afternoon along with time
provided for an afternoon nap. Sing -a -
longs, a snack, as well as an outside • play
are also scheduled. The morning session is
