St. Joseph' sr Community school
students honour retiring 'teachers
St. Joseph's Community School in
Kingsbridge recently lost the services of
two of their teachers, Mrs. Joanne
McDonagh and Mrs. Margaret Ferguson
will retire from teaching at the end of the
school year.
The students at the school gave the
teachers a royal send-off with an assembly
last Friday afternoon. A number of skits
and songs as well as a dance number and a
guitar solo were presented by the students
as a. token of their appreciation. The
students council also presented them with
a plagtle and picture book to remember the
school and the students in their retire-
ment.
Mrs. Ferguson has taught at the school
for the past 17 years. She ,says she has no
big plans for her retirement other than
visiting and entertaining friends. She says
the best part of being a teacher has been
watching the students grow and mature
and have families of their own.
You're interested in them all through
their lives. You're . interested in them
whether it's for good or bad. When you
hear of a tragedy in their lives you feel
sad. When they have successes it's a real
thrill," she said.
Mrs. McDonagh has been a teacher at
the school for the last 11 years after
graduating from Althouse Teachers Col-
lege in London in 1974. She says, she is
retiring to spend more time with her two
small sons. However, she hopes to get back
into the profession at a later date: For the
future, she plans to take a few courses to
keep in touch with the field.
"It's been great. They are a bunch of
great kids. The parents have been most
supliortive in the area," she said.

dent, Pat Porter; vice-president, Elizabeth
Irwin; secretary, Ruth Ritchie; treasurer,

This year has been designated as The
Year of the Youth. Junior Institutes across
Ontario have been called upon to sponsor a
youth project within their respective com-
munities. After discussion on the matter it
was agreed to table the project to the June
meeting when members are requested to br-
ing forth ideas.
The meeting on June 11 was scheduled to
work on a quilt which the group has in pro-
gress. The Junior Institute is committed to
donating a quilt or blanket to fire victims
within the community should the need arise.
Following the business portion of the
meeting, Ruth Ritchie demonstrated no sew
calico crafts and each member completed a
wall hanging.
