The Lucknow Sentinel, 1985-06-26, Page 5Lucknow Sentinel, Wednesday, June 26, 1985 Page 5 Kathieen Gibson wins prestigious Conestoga Award Kathleen Gibson, a graduate of the Health Care Aide program at Conestoga College's Clinton campus, received one of the col- lege's highest awards at . the 17th Spring Convocation held June 22 at the Conestoga College Recreation Centre in Kitchener. She is a resident of Whitechurch. President Kenneth E. Hunter presented the. James W. !Church Achievement .Award to Mrs. Gibson at the morning ceremony. She is currently employed at the Pinecrest Nursing Horne in Lucknow. The Church Award, which consits of $1,000 plus an inscribed Guild Shield related to the winner's program of study, was established in honor of Conestoga's founding President, Dr. Church. The award recognizes a com- bination of academic excellence, demonstrated concern for the dignity of the individual and the. making of a contribution to society.. Kathleen was honored for the personal care and concern show to Pinecrest Manor residents, her participation in various ac- tivities, her efforts on behalf of charitable endeavours in her communityand her use of research skills to enhance her professional competence. Kinloss mill rates established Kinloss council met in regular session on June 3, 1985 with Reeve Barry Johnston and all council members present. Council gave three readings to a by-law to establish the mill rates for local, county and education expenditure. The mill rates for 1985 are as follows (1984 in brackets): for public school supporters 37.565 (35.565); commercial 44.195 (41.843); sep- arate school Bruce -Grey 37.535 (35.818); separate school Huron -Perth 38.138 (36.328). The county levy is up $7,100 or 9.07 per cent, the elementary public school levy is up $10,598 or 9.89 per cent and the secondary School levy is up $8,568 or 10.60 per cent. The township rate has a small reduction. A motion was passed to authorize Ontario Hydro to raise the hydro line on Fisherman's$ Cove road. The road superintendent was instructed to write to thel Ministry of Transportation and Communications to advise them that the township is in favour of the removal of all of the gravel hill on the South half of lot 51 at the intersection of sideroad 15 and highway 86 with a setback of 0 feet. Removal of the hill would improve visibility at the intersection and would allow the sideroad to be moved to the west and straightened. Building permits were approved for Edwin Middlebrook to construct a storage shed, for Robert Bergman to erect an addition to an existing body repair shop and for .Ian Spanswick of Kinlough to construct a garage: General accounts for $11,461.07 and Pork Congress... from page 3 a $25,000 donation to assist in day-to-day operations. Lorne Robinson as township. weed inspector and the tender of William Moffat was accepted to supply tractor and operator at the rate of $18 per hour to spray and cut grass along township roads. Kathleen Gibson, a resident of Whitechurch, was honored on Saturday with the James W. Church Award, one of highest awards. at Conestoga College. Kathleen graduated from the Clinton campus from the Health Care Aide program and is currentlyemployed at the Pinecrest Nursing Home in Lucknow.
