respect to odour.
Expansion or improvement of the village
core commercial and residential areas is
being restricted because of problems
relating to disposal sanitary wastes.. Failed
'Or poorly operating private disposal
systems are causing problems on individual
lots resulting in potential public health pro-
blems, odour problems and wet conditions.
Several solutions are open to the village.
They include a sewage collection and treat-
ment system for the whole village; a sewage
collection and treatment system for the core
area and tix other problems on an individual
basis; do nothing and leave the problems as
they are.
The schedule for the environmental study
includes the identification of the problem
and possible solutions including an informa-
tion centre open to the public to be com-
pleted by June 24; review of alternative
solutions including a public meeting to be
completed by July 19; a detailed review of
the best solution including a public meeting
to . be completed by September 30 and the
preparation of the report to be completed by
October 31.
Hydro chooses Ashfield route
At the present time the line hydro has
chosen is on the lot line between lot.,5 and 6
or the .centre of lot 6 .E.D. Ashfield.
Each long hundred would require five
towers. Each tower requires a hole 36'
deep, 100: cubic yards of cement and 27,000
pounds of steel. The tower is 172 feet high.
Compensation for the inconvenience of
these towers . will be in the form of an
assessment on your property which
amounts to an average of $750 per tower.
Hydro isn't obligated to buy your property
unless your residence is affected. Should
they buy your property,'it will be assessed
at present market value not what you may
have paid for your land. If hydro is forced
to expropriate your land, the value will be
determined by the court.
The hydro transmission lines are for the
benefit of industry which causes our
pollution and ozone damage to crops.
Hydro lines are of no benefit to farmers.
Ontario Hydro has overproduced electricity
and plans to export this power to the
United States.
No aerial spraying or aerial chemical
application is allowed within half a mile
either side/of. the transmission lines. No
irrigation of manure is, allowed near the
transmission lines. Irrigation pipe lines
can't be laid parallel to power lines. A 250
foot easement for the transmission lines
amounts to 25 acres on a lond hundred.
Ontario Hydro has studied land compac-
tion on the transmission line between the
Bruce and Seaforth, crops were reduced by
up to 40 per cent three years later. This line
is a smaller line than what is planned for
Ashfield.
If you are interested in opposing the
Hydro Transmission line through prime
agricultural land, make your cheque
payable to: "Foodland Hydro Committee"
and forward , to Ray Brown, R R 6,
Goderich or Linda Culbert, R R 1
