hat's all school board secretaries and clericals in Bruce County want.
But the elected officials at the Bruce County Board of Education
refuse to pay them fairly.
Your elected officials pay them up to 26 per cent less than school
- secretaries and clerical workers in nearby areas and less than almost any
other worker in Bruce County schools. •
• Some of the secretaries and clerical workers are living ,close to the
• poverty line. All of these workers are women. It's disgraceful. /
School board trustees forced these workers on strike. Many of you
have told your elected officials you miss your school secretaries and
clericals. You know how important they are to the smooth and efficient
operation of our schools. School principals and teachers have also told
. the trustees they want their secretaries and clericals back. •
But your elected officials don't seem to care. In fact, some of them say
they're proud of the board's record of paying secretaries and clericals an
average of only $12,500 a year. Many make much, less. And school
officials say they'll keep secretaries and clerical workers out, no matter
what that does to your children's education. These aren't the'.kind of
people we want running our schools.
Tell your elected school board trustees wage discrimination is
nothing to be proud of. Tell ,them that's not the kind of example they
should be setting for our children.
Call board chairman Michael Snobelen today at 528-3203. Tell him to
get back to the bargaining table and end the strike. Let him know you want
your secretaries and clericals to be paid a living wage.
