The After 4 . Class held their closing
meeting for this year on Monday as their
leader, Mrs. Lamb leaves this month for
their new charge in Nova Scotia: The
meeting was a picnic held on the manse
lawn with Mr. Rod Lamb in charge of the
games for the 10. attenders. After the
gamesthe group was Served.a tasty lunch.
Amy and Kim Falconer brought a gift to
present to Mrs. Lamb on behalf of the
group. . .
Carol Bell of Tiverton visited Wednesday
`afternoon with Mr. and Mrs. Walter.

Donald Ross, while his mother is in
Wingham Hospital.
Members study Koreaniife,
The monthly meeting of: the Pine River
UCW met Tuesday evening, May 14 at the
church. •
The meeting was • opened by the
•conveners, Betty Jones and Doreen Stokes.
Doreen Stokes read a short poem. and the.
hymn, For the 'Healing of the Nations was
sung. Mrs. Stokes then'read the scripture
and led m prayer followed by a hymn.
The meeting, was then turned over.to the
president,. Ruth Farrell. The roll call. was.
answered by reading a verse with the word •
wisdom in it.
. The minutes of ,the last meeting were
read. by Norma Humphrey. There were'32
' ladies present with visitors from the Bethel
and Ripley, churches present.•
Betty Jones read a poem, Learning for
God, and then introduced . the guest
speaker and his wife,, Morley and Audrey
Hammond 'of Hanover, who had spent .11
years in Korea. . Mr. . Hammond spoke of
their oldest girl starting to kindergarten in.
Korea and played some of the songs the
children sang. Mr. and Mrs. Hammond
showed and demonstrated some of the
clothes that were worn by the men and
women of Korea.
The ..'slides Mr. and Mrs., Hammond
• showed were lovely and showed Korea to,
be a very.mountainous country and seemed
to have a great many churches. There is
only one tenth of the land that can 'be
cultivated. There are not many roads and
people have to work wherever they wish to
go, and only!!the floors in the, homes are
heated. They showed pictures of many
schools and universities there..
Phyllis Elliott thanked Mr. and .Mrs.
Hammond for their .talk and slides and
presented them with a small gift. .
Grace was sung and lunch was served
by the hostesses and a social hour was •
enjoyed by all.

The Huron County 4-1/ clubs held their annual achievement night at Brookside school on
Wednesday.evening. Winning awards for 12 completed projects were, left to right, Donna

Plans for June picnic dii"cussed
Twenty-three ladies attended the, May
meeting, of ' the . thcknwow Women's
Institute held in the town Hall on Tuesday.
A delicious dessert And tea was served by
the committee in charge, namely, Mary
MacGillivray, Edna McDonald, Myrtle
Stonehouse and Belle Herbert.
Margart Burkhart showed some slides
and discussed some available trips. Ruth
Bogues, the new president,, chaired the
meeting for the business. She opened with
a poem. The roll was, New Careers for
W omen,
Tillie Wilson, the assistant secretary,
read the minutes of the last meeting and
the correspondence. An invitation was read
from the. Dungannon Institute for June.
The June picnic was discussed.
Delegates were chosen to attend the
district annual in •Underwood on May 21.
The magazine to the library was renewed.
The south side of main street takes the first
Course to the picnic and the north side
takes dessert.
Mary MacGillivray was chairman for the
program. 0 Canada was sung and Mary
read a poem. Edna McDonald gave the
motto, There is no place more delightful
than home. She left much food for thought.
Dorothy Brown played some numbers on
the piano and Myrtle Stonehouse gave a
reading. Mrs. Goodhue gave us A most
enjoyable synopsis of her experience/in the
different Women's Institutes she has
beloriged to while a resident in Quebec as
well as in different parts of Ontario, Edna
McDonald had an excellent reading on
Mother. Mary MacGillivray had a quiz on
the hand book and closed the meeting with
the Queen.
